Genesis Opens Two In-School Clinics for Students and Public

Thanks to a new partnership between the School District of Palm Beach County and Genesis Community Health, residents of Boynton Beach and Delray Beach – along with school students and staff – will have access to convenient medical clinics located inside Atlantic and Boynton Beach high schools.

Early next year, Genesis Community Health, a non-profit, long-term healthcare clinic dedicated to serving patients of all economic levels, will oversee two clinics inside Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach Community High School. The clinics will offer preventive health services including screening for vision, hearing, asthma, obesity, scoliosis, tuberculosis and other medical conditions, first aid, and required and recommended immunizations.

A Family Nurse Practitioner will be on site to diagnose conditions and prescribe medications, and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker will be on staff to assist students and their families with issues related to mental health and poverty. Genesis CEO DeAnna Warren said Boynton Beach and Atlantic high schools were selected for their high numbers of students who receive free- and reduced-price lunches, an indicator of poverty.

Genesis will open the clinics to students, staff and parents of students and will expand its services to residents shortly afterward.

The clinics, which are free to students, will be open when school is in session. They will be closed on weekends and when school is closed for summer and other breaks, according to the contract with the school district. The clinics will bill Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance if adult patients are covered, and charge a sliding fee for the uninsured.

Genesis is securing funding from the Florida Department of Health for the new clinics and is currently seeking funding from other foundations and private donors to support the venture, Warren said.
