Jackson Memorial Hospital Nurse and Physician’s Assistant Receive Luminaire Awards
At the 8th Annual Luminaire Awards Gala 2010, Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center Resuscitation Unit Recipients Attila Mathe, R.N., and Leo Harris, P.A., were honored with the Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency’s 2010 Luminaire Nurse of the Year and Support Services Practitioner of the Year awards respectively.
Attila Mathe graduated from Florida International University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. He was accepted into the Jackson Memorial Hospital Critical Care Internship
Program and selected to work on the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) as a bedside staff nurse. He was promoted to charge nurse of the SICU. Mathe was later transferred to the Ryder Trauma Center’s Resuscitation Department at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he learned the skills of a trauma nurse.

He achieved his Physicians Assistant and Masters of Public Health degrees from Nova Southeastern. In 1999, Harris started doing research at the University of Miami in head trauma under the mentorship of Dr. Phillip Villanueva, and he began as a physician’s assistant at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2002.
