Miami Beach Community Health Center Expands its Service Area within Miami-Dade County New MBCHC partnership to benefit underserved communities

Miami Beach Community Health Center (MBCHC), now celebrating 30 years of caring as a comprehensive network of health centers in Miami-Dade County, will open its fifth medical site in partnership with the Center for Haitian Studies, Health and Human Services (CHS) on Mon., Aug., 6, 2007. This collaborative effort will provide greater access to culturally sensitive healthcare services for underserved populations in need of preventative health and medicine and treatment options.

"This is fine example of how our organization is committed to providing affordable and quality healthcare services neighborhood by neighborhood," said Kathryn Abbate, CEO of Miami Beach Community Health Center. "This new partnership with CHS will expand our medical outreach and will be a real benefit to the people in this community."

MBCHC will offer its trusted comprehensive care at this new location, offering a range of medical specialties including pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, pharmacy, laboratory, internal medicine and immune support programs. Men, women and children will receive the same quality healthcare regardless of their ability to pay or status of insurance coverage.

The community is invited to get acquainted with the Miami Beach Community Health Center at CHS during a special pre-opening celebration on Sat., Aug. 4, 2007. Attendees will enjoy health screenings, complimentary food and the chance to meet the professional staff at the Center.

"For years, CHS has been addressing illiteracy, as well as language and cultural barriers within the Haitian community as it relates to healthcare," said Laurinus Pierre, M.D., M.PH., Executive Director of CHS. "This partnership with MBCHC is a natural progression of our organizationís critical mission to meet the needs of the growing Haitian population in Miami-Dade County."

The Center for Haitian Studies, Health and Human Services (CHS) is a community-based, non-profit corporation, which was founded in 1989 for the purposes of improving the lives of the Haitian people and other disenfranchised populations living in underserved areas of Miami-Dade County. CHS is a vital source of education and training for healthcare providers and others who seek to better understand the Haitian culture, in addition to their community outreach via health fairs, broadcast media and one-on-one educational sessions.

Established in 1977 as a federally funded community health center, Miami Beach Community Health Center offers quality, comprehensive ambulatory healthcare to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of patients at three locations in Miami Beach and North Miami, plus a school- based care program at Miami Beach Senior High School. MBCHC has emerged into a fully integrated medical network, offering a broad spectrum of services and Board certified specialties such as family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, dental and geriatrics.

MBCHC is also a proud partner in the Health Choice Network, an organization created by Community Health Centers for the purpose of delegating essential business that can be more efficiently or effectively operated jointly. This gives MBCHC a greater advantage to dedicate more of its resources to serve more patients, offer more services and enhance the level of care they provide to improve health outcomes.
