Guilty … as Charged?

I guess looking on the bright side, if we weren’t married Carol might be calling an attorney right now. I can see it now — Felix vs. Felix — The Case of the Flying Bicycle Pedal. With my luck, Carol would get her idol Perry Mason to represent her and I would be stuck with the perennial loser DA!

You see I had one of my rare inclinations to get fit, so I happily borrowed my brother Ted’s “like-new” collapsible bicycle. (He also is a victim of these rare inclinations to get fit.) And when I got it home, I did have to put the partially assembled bicycle back together. But here’s where it gets a bit cloudy … did I ever really tighten up those pesky pedals?

Fast forward to last week when Carol decided to accompany our visiting grandkids Kenzie and Karter on a little bike ride. From what I hear everything went pretty well the first trip around the neighborhood. It wasn’t until lap 2 that disaster struck and as Carol attempted to push off that silly right pedal decided to fly off; which in turn caused Carol to fly off (both figuratively and literally, I might add!) And to add insult to injury (again literally and figuratively), I was on a conference call with my ear piece and never heard a sound. Even Gabby’s barks couldn’t shake me out of my desk chair.

So would this type of mishap fall under the heading of an operator (Carol) problem or product assembly? That’s where Carol and I tend to part ways. While I prefer to blame the loose pedal on a bad screw, Carol seems to think my assembly is at fault. But you be the judge.

So to make a long story short, Carol is now very stylishly attired in a black sling due to the slight crack in her “something” with MRI results coming soon. As for me, upon the advice of my attorney (brother-in-law Bob), I am invoking the 5th amendment, “I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may tend to incriminate me.”
