Patricia Dean of Miami Children’s Hospital Receives American Epilepsy Society’s 2011 J. Kiffin Penry Award

The American Epilepsy Society (AES) has announced that Patricia Dean, ARNP, MSN, a pediatric nurse practitioner and Clinical Coordinator of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at Miami Children’s Hospital, has been named recipient of this year’s J. Kiffin Penry Excellence in Epilepsy Care Award. Dean is an internationally known expert in epilepsy self-management and parent counseling, and a tireless advocate for epilepsy patients and their families.
 
Patricia Dean has served children and families affected by epilepsy both as a professional care provider and as an advocate and volunteer at the local, state, and national level. She has served as president of the Epilepsy Foundation of South Florida, as a member of Florida Governor’s Task Force on Epilepsy, board director for the Epilepsy Foundation of America, and as a member of many ad hoc committees working to advance the care and quality of life for children with epilepsy.
