Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) continues to add recognized industry leaders to its executive team ranks.

Jennifer Barnett-Sarpalius was recently appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer at CTCA®. Barnett-Sarpalius has more than 27 years of health care finance experience in large, multi-hospital health systems including CHI St. Luke’s Health System, Trinity Health, Catholic Health East (CHE) and Christus Health.
Michael McMillan was appointed Chief Access Officer in early 2017. McMillan brings more than 30 years of managed care experience to CTCA, including 18 years at The Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland Clinic Health System in Ohio. 

Ken Chaplin joined CTCA as Senior Vice President of Growth in July 2017 to oversee social and integrated media,including, which receives more than 3 million unique visits each month. Chaplin spent the majority of his 25-year career at The Walt Disney Company.

Rob Braun was recently appointed to Vice President of the CTCA National Clinical Network. Braun brings 25 years of experience in the oncology sector, most recently as System Vice President for Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Barnabas Health in New Jersey.

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center appoints Stephen Mathison, senior partner of Mathison Whittles LLP , and Dr. Richard Price, former Chief of Staff at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, as new Governing Board members.

Mathison is a Palm Beach County native and graduate of the University of Florida. Upon graduation he attended the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. Mathison has been practicing for nearly 35 years. He is also the founder, former chairman and current economic development chair of the PGA Corridor Association and former chairman of the Palm Beach Community College Foundation.
Dr. Price is a practicing cardiologist who holds a Bachelors of Arts from New York University and graduated from medical school from the University of Brussels in Belgium. He did his internship and residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital at the University of Connecticut. He completed his residency at the VA at SUNY at Stony Brook. 

Brian Kirkpatrick, Dr. Jessica Morlok-Prince and Dr. Ronald Romear are the most recent to join the Quantum Foundation board of trustees, according to Eric Kelly, president for the private grantmaking organization.

Kirkpatrick is the CFO of Neptune Research, Inc. and founder and CEO of Taylor Capital, LLC. 
Dr. Jessica Morlok-Prince is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department 
of West Boca Medical Center and Medical Director and Department Chief of the Pediatric Emergency Department, Palm Beach Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Dr. Ronald Romear is the owner and managing partner of Infants and Children, P.A. in West Palm Beach

Dr. Greg Hartley, Assistant Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy, has been sworn in as President of the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy (AGPT), a component of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Dr. Hartley was Volunteer Faculty at UM from 2002-2015, and has been a full-time faculty member in UM’s PT Program since 2015. He is a board-certified geriatric clinical specialist and a certified exercise expert for aging adults™. Dr. Hartley is the founder of the first accredited geriatric physical therapy residency in the U.S., which is housed locally at St. Catherine’s Rehabilitation Hospital and is affiliated with the University of Miami’s Department of Physical Therapy. He previously served the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy as Director and Secretary on the Board of Directors, and as Chair of its Practice Committee where he oversaw creation of a variety of evidence-based documents and clinical practice guidelines. 

Ramona Thomas has been promoted to vice president and chief legal officer at Martin Health System in Stuart.

Thomas joined Martin Health in January 2016 as assistant vice president/associate legal counsel. Her responsibilities have included providing legal counsel in these areas: corporate compliance; medical staff quality and peer review; provider, vendor and real estate contracting; clinical risk management; and patient safety.
Ramona graduated from the University of Central Florida and received her law degree from Florida State University College of Law where she focused on environmental law. She was introduced to hospital law while working for Broad and Cassell in Tallahassee and went on to serve as legal counsel for Humana.

The Board of Trustees of Jupiter Medical Center has inducted three new members. Henri J. DesPlaines, Michele Deverich and Anthony Shaya, M.D., were appointed during the medical center’s annual Corporate Board Meeting in January.

Henri J. DesPlaines, CPA, serves as the chief financial officer and executive vice president of J.J. Taylor Companies, Inc. A graduate from Western New England University, DesPlaines joined the Taylor organization in 1985 after a 16-year career in public accounting. DesPlaines currently is a member of Jupiter Medical Center’s finance and audit committees, and also serves on a number of other boards.
Michele Deverich is CEO of Strategic Healthcare Associates (SHA). Prior to SHA, she worked at Magellan Health Services for more than five years in various leadership positions. Deverich currently serves as a member of Jupiter Medical Center’s finance committee.
Dr. Anthony Shaya has been in private practice in the Jupiter area for more than 11 years. He is the immediate past chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jupiter Medical Center, a position he was elected to by his peers.

Wellington Regional Medical Center (WRMC) announced its plans to expand access to emergency care in Central Palm Beach County with the construction of a freestanding emergency department in Westlake.

Located on the east side of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road and the south side of Persimmon Boulevard East, the full-service emergency room will provide emergency care 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The new facility is expected to open in late 2018.
“We are honored and excited to be the first non-residential development in the Westlake community,” said Robbin Lee, CEO of WRMC. “By expanding our emergency services, we can better meet the needs of our growing community and provide access to emergency care where it is needed. It has been our goal to create a true emergency department by including a full complement of services, staff and technology. We will be equipped to handle everything from scrapes and sprains, to patients who are experiencing chest pain and the symptoms of a stroke.” 

Wellington Regional Medical Center (WRMC) recently announced that it has opened The Weight Management Center, which will provide personalized, physician directed weight management solutions in a newly renovated facility.

The Weight Management Center at WRMC will offer customized weight-loss programs, dedicated treatment teams, health coaching, exercise physiologist/fitness instruction, and nutrition management. The center includes a community classroom, where support groups and informational sessions are held monthly, and a fitness center. Weight loss plans include four-week and 12-week programs, as well as programs for people who have had bariatric surgery.
“Our programs are unique in that they are physician directed and personalized to fit a person’s weight-loss goals,” said Emily, Harrison, M.D., Medical Director of The Weight Management Center. “We start by learning their story to understand the root cause of the weight gain, and then customize a program to help them be successful. After the initial evaluation, follow up appointments may include meeting with a registered dietician, a fitness instructor, or a health psychologist.” 

Four neurologists have joined the Holy Cross Medical Group.

Carlos Ramon Azaret, M.D., completed his residency in internal medicine at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, PA and his residency in neurology at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Azaret received his Doctor of Medicine from Universidad Central del Caribe Medical School in Bayamon, Puerto Rico and a B.A. in Psychology from Loyola University in New Orleans.
Abraham A. Chamely, M.D., received his fellowship training in electromyography at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio and neurology residency at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. Dr. Chamely completed medical residencies in Saskatchewan, Canada at University Hospital, Saskatoon and at Plains Health Center, Regina. He completed a medical registrar at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados and a rotating internship at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and at Port of Spain General Hospital in Trinidad. He received an M.B.B.S. from University of the West Indies.
Martin Allan Lesser, M.D., received his fellowship training in electromyography at Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Ohio and completed residencies in neurology and neuropathology at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. He interned in the Department of Medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital/V.H.A. in Dallas. Dr. Lesser received his medical degree from Case-Western Reserve School of Medicine in Ohio and a B.A. in Biology with Distinction from Boston University.
Sheryl Strasser, M.D., holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University and practiced veterinary medicine for eight years before attending medical school at the University of Miami. She completed her residency in neurology at Jackson Memorial Hospital and her internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center. 

Scott Nygaard, M.D., MBA, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer for Lee Health.

Dr. Nygaard joined Lee Health in 2010 as the Chief Medical Officer for Lee Physician Group. In 2016, Dr. Nygaard was promoted to Chief Medical Officer for the health system and most recently served as Chief Medical and Clinical Integration Officer. Dr. Nygaard will retain the duties of the Chief Medical and Clinical Integration Officer and further assess the need to replace this role.
Before joining Lee Health, Dr. Nygaard served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Services at Via Christi Health System in Wichita, KS, and at Affinity Health System in Appleton, WI, where he served as the Chief Medical Officer responsible for Affinity’s multispecialty group practice.
