Health care stakeholders are invited to participate in one of four Department of Homeland Security webinar sessions March 27-30 on the National Cyber Incident Response Plan and how stakeholders can leverage the plan in their communities. Developed by DHS in coordination with federal, state and public and private partners, including representatives from the health care sector, the plan was released in January and describes a national approach to dealing with significant incidents posing risks to critical infrastructure. Each webinar session, hosted on the Homeland Security Information Network, will begin at 3:00 p.m. EDT and cover the same information. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is accepting applications for $22.6 million in fiscal year 2017 grants for states to work with qualified community health programs to integrate primary and behavioral health care for adults and children. The agency anticipates awarding 11 grants of up to $2 million per year over five years through cooperative agreements under the program. Applications for FY 2017 are due May 17. Statewide law firm Broad and Cassel announced Frank P. Terzo and Michael D. Lessne have joined the Fort Lauderdale office as partners, beefing up the firm’s health law and bankruptcy practice groups while creating a new health care insolvency service for the firm.

Frank Terzo joins Broad and Cassel’s Health Law and Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights Practice Groups. He previously served as executive partner and chair of GrayRobinson's bankruptcy practice group. While there, he was involved in a wide range of insolvency matters, including representation of corporate and consumer clients in complex workouts, bankruptcies, assignments for the benefit of creditors and receiverships. He also has substantial experience in both the prosecution and defense of all forms of complex bankruptcy litigation, including preference and fraudulent transfer proceedings and complex contested matters.
 
Michael D. Lessne also joins Broad and Cassel as partner in the Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights, Health Law, and Commercial Litigation Practice Groups. A licensed CPA in Florida, Lessne provides counsel to businesses and individuals in a broad array of restructuring and insolvency matters, including to debtors, lenders and other creditors, and fiduciaries in complex business and consumer bankruptcy matters, state court assignments, and out-of-court workouts, as well as in state and federal court proceedings involving complex litigation. Prior to joining the firm, he was a shareholder with GrayRobinson in Fort Lauderdale.

Broward Health North would like to welcome Gueorgui Petrov as the new Rehabilitation Coordinator.

Gueorgui began his career with Broward Health working as a Radiology Transporter at BHCS in 2002. After spending a few years as a transporter, Gueorgui went back to school receiving his masters in physical therapy from the University of Central Florida. Upon graduation, Gueorgui moved back to South Florida and started working per deim for the Rehab Department at BHN. In 2012, he was hired full-time as a Physical Therapist. In 2015, Gueorgui was promoted to Senior Physical Therapist. 

Coral Gables Hospital promotes Cristina Jimenez to the position of Chief Executive Officer. In her new role, she will be responsible for all strategic, operational and clinical initiatives at the hospital.

Jimenez began her career at Coral Gables Hospital and has served in various roles over a more than 30-year span. In her previous role as chief operating officer, Jimenez oversaw operations for all non-nursing departments and managed the overall direction of the facility licensure and regulatory accreditations. Recently, Jimenez was involved in helping the hospital achieve designations as the first in Miami-Dade County to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for both total hip and total knee replacements.”
 
She was also the co-lead for the region’s COO committee. Her guidance led to improved quality and safety outcomes across multiple hospitals and allowed for sharing best practices, cost savings and talent development.
 
Prior to being promoted to COO, Jimenez was the hospital’s associate administrator. Under her leadership, the hospital achieved Joint Commission Accreditation, implemented a new risk management system and hospital safety program.

A. Barry Grosse, J.D., has been named Chief Compliance Officer of the University of Miami Health System and the Miller School of Medicine.

Grosse, who is now Chief Compliance Officer of Healogics, a wound care management services company in Jacksonville, comes with a wealth of experience building compliance programs at managed care companies, hospitals and health care providers.
 
Among his previous positions were Chief Compliance Officer of the North America Post-Acute Care Division of Hill-Rom Company, Chief Compliance Officer and Associate General Counsel of the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in South Carolina, and Director of Electronic Commerce Operations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida.
 
 

Zeelena Callender, MSN, RN, CMSRN, is now the ICU Nurse Manager for Broward Health Coral Springs(BHCS). Zee has been the Nurse Manager for 3E/4N for the past 4.5 years and Assistant Nurse Manager for those areas for 5 years. Prior to coming to BHCS, Zeelena had been both a CVICU stepdown then a CVICU RN at BHMC for 6 years collectively. She has her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Broward Community College and her Masters of Science in Nursing from Nova Southeastern University. She is certified in Medical-Surgical Nursing.

 

 

 

Justin Boise, BA, BSN, RN, SCRN, has been named stroke program coordinator for the AHCA (Agency for Health Care Administration) Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

Boise most recently served as stroke program coordinator at Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
 
A stroke certified registered nurse, Boise received his BSN in nursing from the Miami Dade College Benjamin Leon School of Nursing in Miami following his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He is currently enrolled as an MSN candidate at the University of West Florida in Pensacola.
 
 

Alternative Home Health Care has hired two new market managers to oversee its business operations in Miami–Dade and Martin counties. Richard Hernandez and Stacey Kokell will be responsible for leading and growing Alternative’s brand within each respective market.

A licensed nurse practitioner with over a decade of experience in the health care industry, Hernandez brings extensive patient care, administrative and management expertise to Alternative Home Health Care. Hernandez previously served as a case manager at Heartland Kendall. Hernandez also has extensive first-hand knowledge of the home care business, having previously owned and operated Mi Retiro Inc., an assisted living facility in Hialeah.
 
Stacey Kokell will be managing Alternative’s newest office in Martin County which is expected to open later this spring. Formerly a branch manager for ResCare HomeCare, she has extensive experience with sales, management and administration in a home care setting.
