Interventional cardiologist Dr. Miguel Diaz performs lifesaving TAVR heart care on Hialeah resident Caridad Moran, who suffered from a deadly aortic heart valve ailment
June 7 2021 – I was constantly short of breath while performing very easy activities like putting clothes away and hanging things in the closet, but to be honest with you it was surprising to find out this was a sign of an impending heart condition. One morning, I woke up feeling just horrible like my life was in danger. While sitting up in bed I couldn’t breathe, fainted and collapsed. My husband quickly called 911 and I was transported to Palmetto General Hospital via ambulance. I was taken to the emergency room for evaluation and seen by Dr. Miguel Diaz, a clinical and interventional cardiologist and Medical Director of the Structural Heart Program at Palmetto General Hospital. Dr. Diaz explained there was a problem with my aortic heart valve. To find out if I was healthy enough for aortic valve treatment, Dr. Diaz performed a cardiac catheterization procedure to diagnose my heart condition. Then, Dr. Diaz took the time to explain everything to me about my cardiac condition in a clear and concise way. Dr. Diaz would perform a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure to replace my diseased aortic heart valve.
Due to my heart condition, I spent four days in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital. I am glad the hospital has such a top-notch heart care team and advanced TAVR interventional cardiology care available in my community and Dr. Miguel Diaz around to repair my aortic valve ailment with a minimally invasive replacement aortic valve. If I did not have the surgery, I could have died. Dr. Miguel Diaz and Palmetto General Hospital put me back on a path towards better health.
Dr. Diaz was marvelous, amazing, and he explained everything to me. He was patient with me, in fact, Dr. Diaz took the time to inform and educate me about my heart ailment so I would have a complete understanding of my cardiac condition and treatment. Dr. Diaz explained everything so perfectly. He made sure I was healthy enough to go through a heart surgery.
Dr. Diaz was able put in another heart valve replacement inside of my existing valve instead of taking out the original. After my TAVR, I felt good. It put my heart at ease to know thanks to Dr. Diaz and the TAVR procedure I do not really have any heart issues to worry about moving forward. I feel great today. I am so impressed with Dr. Diaz that I decided that I am going to follow-up with him and his staff as my cardiologist choice for my future cardiology care.
Before the TAVR, my condition was going downhill quickly. After Dr. Diaz performed the TAVR procedure to heal and mend my ailing heart I have been getting back to the things that make me happy and now enjoying a better quality of life. I am back to cooking dishes and enjoying my home life. Today, free from the restraint of heart failure I am happy.
Every day I cherish each minute with my family. I am incredibly thankful to Dr. Diaz and the entire staff at the hospital because they treated me like a queen. Since I left the hospital shortly after my TAVR heart procedure I have had a few visits to Dr. Diaz’s cardiology office just to check-up on my health. Dr. Diaz and his staff go above, and beyond to offer me the best heart treatment and care. Another thing I really like about Dr. Diaz’s office is that they do not keep me waiting; they are always fast getting me to see Dr. Diaz and his care staff. I think my heart care landing in the hands of Dr. Diaz was probably the best thing that could have happened to me in terms of my heart care and health. I am very happy with the care I received from Dr. Diaz, his staff and my stay at Palmetto General Hospital because things could not have been better for my heart care.
