Last month, David Wagner accepted the reins for the next two years as Chairman of SFHHA from outgoing Chair, Chantal LeConte, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital CEO, with much praise and admiration for her leadership.

This coming January will mark the one-year anniversary of the Miami Cancer Institute. The $430 million, 445,000 sq. ft. facility has rapidly grown in volume since its inception and is now seeing up to 850 unique patients a day. Its radiation therapy unit is also seeing far beyond its anticipated number of patients.

Since the emergence of the hospice programs in 1982, cancer treatment has undergone sweeping changes and advancements, marked by hundreds of new cancer drugs and biologics, genetic technologies, targeted therapies, greater access to clinical trials, and massive investments in cancer treatment centers.

The Florida Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) is pleased to announce a partnership with South Florida Hospital & Healthcare News (SFHN). This past month definitely went by in a blur … a blur of activity, business, family, and friends (and don’t even get me started on those 7 “banned” words.) Of course, whenever Carol and I cram too much in, other things suffer. My giant inflatable Chanukah bear blew a fuse and Carol ended up with a cold and cough that makes her sound like Darth Vader.
