"World-changing" is the phrase Dr. Susana Barroso-Fernandez uses to describe the Simulation Hospital that is a part of the University of Miami School of Nursing & Health Studies, and that's because, well, it is. Dr. Barroso-Fernandez is both assistant professor of clinical, and director of Simulation Hospital special projects, and she has been involved with the project since the beginning.

On August 1, the law firms, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP, and Florida-based Broad and Cassel, combined to form the new law practice, Nelson Mullins Broad and Cassel. The new firm expands the depth and breadth of the legal services to its clients, and has more than 750 attorneys and professionals operating in 25 offices across 11 states and the District of Columbia.

Becker's Healthcare honored 90 healthcare leaders under 40 years old as rising stars in the industry.
Individuals on this list have achieved executive positions at hospitals and health systems across the country, founded health IT companies and reached prominence within their organizations.

The U.S. healthcare industry is resilient, vast, complex, and unique among advanced industrialized countries. On the other hand, this industry operates in silos, fragmented, and it does not function as an integrated, efficient, and coordinated healthcare delivery system. Currently, most medical services that patients and consumers receive are provided by many distinct organizations with limited opportunities for coordination, collaboration, and synergy.

As president and chief executive officer of one of the 10 largest public healthcare systems in the nation, Beverly Capasso knows a thing or two about working with top leaders to ensure high quality care for the community. So I bet you think this will be a serious treatise on the importance of completing your work on time, meeting deadlines, etc. In the words of the great John McEnroe, “YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS?” But in all honesty, important deadlines like getting the paper out on time and into your mailboxes — that’s definitely not in my job description. Remember, I’m just the “pretty face.”

It may be hard to imagine right now, but odds are the business you’ve worked so hard to create will be owned by someone else in the future. Eventually, you will either give up the helm voluntarily when you retire, or involuntarily as the result of an unexpected event.

The U.S. healthcare system will see a massive influx of elderly patients as the aging population grows, and investors are diving in.

Providers are preparing as well, and according to recent data, they’re aligned with investors on what the future goal of elder care looks like: preserving greater independence for seniors. A recent CBRE survey—comprised of senior housing investors, developers, lenders and brokers—found that 60 percent of respondents expected to increase the size of their senior housing portfolios this year.

Ashely Vertuno is the Chief Operating Officer at Westside Regional Medical Center, East Florida Division with HCA since October 2017. When it comes to cars, most folks are not that picky. Reliable, Comfortable, Quality, Value, and Safety are what many seem to look for. I recently started kicking the tires figuratively and literally with the idea of getting something new. The bells and whistles today are amazing. However, when every car seems to have the same “cool” options, it is far less impressive.
