The Jupiter Medical Center Foundation has surpassed a major goal to enhance health care for residents in South Florida. In October 2018, the Foundation surpassed the $160 million mark in its $300 million goal, allowing Jupiter Medical Center to provide world-class, compassionate health care close to home.

The BCMA is an organization that I joined shortly after starting my practice in July of 2007. I was encouraged to join by physician colleagues such as Dr. Barry Galitzer and Dr. Nigel Spier.

Early on, I met Dr. Octavio (Tony) Prieto (who is no longer with us) who, in his very unique way, expressed to me the importance of organized medicine.

When Maggie Gill accepted a position this past September as the CEO of Delray Medical Center and Group CEO for the Tenet Palm Beach County hospitals, it was more than a new job; it was an opportunity to return to a place that she always loved.

Radiation therapy is an effective treatment for breast cancer, but like other therapies it often comes with side effects. Some of the most serious, including damage to the heart, may not appear until years later.

The Future of Medicine Summit XII of the Palm Beach County Medical Society & Services is set for February 7–8, 2019, at Kravis Center, The Cohen Pavilion, West Palm Beach, FL. 

Presented during the Centennial Year of the Palm Beach County Medical Society (PBCMS), the 12th Annual Future of Medicine showcases the impact medicine has had in the last century.

When it comes to filling the need for higher acuity care, skilled nursing centers are being asked to step in. The ever-increasing cost of health care has resulted in health care professionals and patients turning to skilled nursing facilities to provide the specialized, sub-acute care needed after discharge from a hospital, prior to returning home.

The patient journey through medical treatment consists of a series of milestones, from diagnosis through referral, treatment and recovery. Beginning with the search for the best doctor and every step along the way, most patients are hungry for information and bursting with questions. How do I know my diagnosis is correct? What kind of treatment do I need? What is the recovery like? 

Roy Hawkins, Jr. became CEO of Jackson North Medical Center in September of 2017. A Miami native, his healthcare experience includes working for the Department of Veterans Affairs before transitioning to HCA in Richmond, VA where he served as chief operations officer.

A team of University of Miami Miller School of Medicine faculty, along with collaborators from the University of Pittsburgh, recently presented the first report of acute symptoms and clinical findings in 25 diplomatic personnel living in the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba, who experienced severe neurosensory symptoms after exposure to a unique sound and pressure phenomenon.
