April 14, 2021 - Cris Martinez joins the Alzheimer’s Association as the 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer’s event chair in Palm Beach. Martinez is a certified broadcast meteorologist at WPBF 25 ABC Television in West Palm Beach and a member of the Board of Directors for the Southeast Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“I love our diverse community here in South Florida and want to make sure that our family, friends and caregivers in this community know that there is hope and resources ahead to help eradicate this horrible disease that touches so many,” Martinez said. “I’m extremely passionate about this mission and hope you’ll join me in supporting our community in bringing hope to those that continue to be touched by Alzheimer’s until there’s a cure.”
Martinez will be joined by co-chair Hector Rodriguez, multicultural marketing consultant at WPBF 25 ABC and Estrella TV, and Community Engagement Chair Jonathan D. Karp, counselor at law at Karp Law Firm.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. The Association is moving forward with plans to host the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in person this fall.
“The health and safety of participants, volunteers and staff remain our top priorities as we continue to monitor the pandemic and make decisions about event details in our community,” said Toni Abraham, Walk director. “While we’re planning to gather in person, we will continue to offer options to participate in Walk online and in your neighborhood.
“Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever – and with your support, we can continue to be there for them,” Abraham added. “Every dollar you raise through Walk to End Alzheimer’s allows the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.”
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Oct. 23, 2021, in Palm Beach. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
