HIMSS14 Demonstrates the Power of Health IT

HIMSS (www.himss.org), the cause-based organization devoted to improving health with information technology, will hold its 2014 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition February 23-27 in Orlando, FL at the Orange County Convention Center. The conference brings together health IT professionals, clinicians, executives and vendors from around the world.

More than 300 education programs, thought leader sessions, roundtable discussions and e-sessions, plus pre-conference workshops and symposia, will take place during the conference.

Educational sessions cover a variety of topics including, Clinical & Business Intelligence, ICD-10, Interoperability, Meaningful Use, Mobile Health, Patient Engagement and Value of Health IT. Several networking opportunities will also be available.

“In addition to the other outstanding education and networking sessions available during HIMSS14, attendees will have two opportunities to tour Nemours Children’s Hospital. The tour on Sunday, Feb. 23, will focus on technology, and the tour on Tuesday, Feb. 25, will discuss the patient-centered approach,” said Carla Smith, MA, CNM, FHIMSS, vice president, HIMSS. “Nemours is part of the 650-acre health and life sciences park known as Lake Nona Medical City, a premier location for medical care, research and education. The organization is a HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award recipient, and the first to achieve Stage 7 of the ambulatory EMRAM in the Florida, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania area. Offering the tours brings something local into our program and ties in with our theme of healthy patients and doing more for the consumer.”

HIMSS14 registration and the number of exhibiting companies are trending higher than HIMSS13. Attendance at HIMSS13 totaled 34,600 people. Based on current metrics, HIMSS anticipates 37,000+ attendees in Orlando. In addition, projections indicate more than 1,200 exhibiting companies, and their health IT products and services, will be represented on the show floor,

“The South Florida HIMSS chapter is very excited HIMSS has once again selected Florida as the site for the HIMSS14 conference. Florida, in our opinion, is the ideal site for HIMSS14, since it is, in fact, a convergence state for many things that are of interest and benefit to the HIMSS membership. From the fabulous weather and amenities to both the attendee and his/her family; to one of the most varied and heavily international populated conference venues; to the ability to interact and visit many of the nation’s Top 100 hospitals and health systems,” said Anita M. Wilson, MSN, RN, FHIMSS, CHCIO, CPHIMS, administrative director, IT, clinical operations, Miami Children’s Hospital, HIMSS South Florida chapter president.

Keynote speakers for the conference include: Mark Bertolini, chief executive officer, Aetna; Hillary Rodham Clinton, former secretary of state and former U.S. senator from New York; Marilyn Tavenner, administrator, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; and Erik Weihenmayer, world class blind adventurer.
