Let’s Connect: SFHEF Spotlight

Strategic planning is an ever-changing field in healthcare. It’s not easy to keep up with the pace of change when it comes to reimbursement shifts; care delivery model updates; consumerism (not to mention the very different needs of each generation); coordination of care; service line demands and so on.

Strategic planners should drive action, change behavior and produce measurable results working with a team that understands the organization’s goals set forth. It starts with the development of goals and strategies to create a clear path on where the organization needs to be in the future. There are roadblocks that happen, but good strategists see roadblocks as opportunities.
 
As the current leader of the Healthcare Strategic Planning Advisory Services for Landmark Healthcare Facilities, it is my job to guide a different branch of healthcare services. I now focus my strategic planning expertise on providing the best planning and strategies for our clients in the area of facility development and strategic operations. Landmark Healthcare Facilities is a full-service developer of physician office buildings and clinics, ambulatory care and surgery centers, and specialized centers focusing on cardiac, cancer and orthopedic outpatient services across the United States.
 
It is crucial as a healthcare strategic planner to be flexible. The healthcare landscape is vastly different than it was 10 years ago and even more challenging than it was just a year ago. The recent changes are forcing healthcare systems, hospitals and providers to focus on recognizing the importance and need of outpatient and ambulatory growth.
 
Focusing on the ambulatory side of the healthcare spectrum, and planning for successful care to be provided in the outpatient setting, needs to be very targeted geographically and demographically. Using a targeted strategic planning approach, in sync with healthcare and academic entities, physician groups and market demand leads to successful outcomes.
 
It is essential in any sort of healthcare planning, be it direct patient care product lines or planning for specific facility needs, to constantly relate to projects from the past along with all current trends and information. The business of healthcare is constantly pushing all strategic planners to utilize education and experience from previously developed plans, demographic studies, environmental and feasibility analyses and strategic planning for the benefit of their programs and services. Keeping up with current trends and staying on top of today’s healthcare market is “a must,” and the South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum’s (SFHEF) educational programs and events provide me with the continued learning and the opportunity to be in touch with healthcare leaders and decision makers.
