Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Regional Chief Medical Officer Speaks at Opening of MDPrevent

At the grand opening of MDPrevent, Richard Wild, M.D., JD, MBA, FACEP, Chief Medical Officer from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Regional Office in Atlanta, addressed a group of 150 discussing a number of new changes to Medicare that reflect the federal government’s new commitment to disease prevention.
“The goal is to keep people healthy, instead of treating disease,” said Wild of the new direction. “In the long run, it is less expensive and promotes better quality of life for our seniors.”
In late November, CMS announced several new disease prevention services for Medicare recipients that are completely covered and not subject to deductibles or co-payments for depression screening, obesity screening and behavioral therapy, cardiovascular disease, behavioral therapy, alcohol screening and counseling, and smoking cessation.
