Memorial Healthcare System Medical Director Honored for Community Work on HIV Prevention, Education Among Hispanics

Paula Eckardt, M.D., of Memorial Healthcare System, is the recipient of the distinguished Louis Curbelo Leadership Award, an honor recognizing the Medical Director of the Division of Infectious Disease for playing a vital role in raising awareness of HIV and AIDS in Broward County’s Latino community.

Dr. Eckardt is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She earned her medical degree in 1997 from Universidad del Norte, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She completed an internship in internal medicine in 2000 at Jackson Memorial Hospital/VA Medical Center through the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in internal medicine in 2002 and a fellowship in infectious diseases in 2004. She has served as a primary care physician and infectious disease consultant since 2004.
In 2008, she joined Memorial Healthcare System as an infectious disease consultant, HIV/AIDS specialist and primary care physician and later joined as a member of Memorial Physician Group. Since 2011, Dr. Eckardt has served as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Since 2014, she has also served as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Florida Atlantic University.
