February 2016 - Volume 12 - Issue 8

Publisher's Note

Was it a sign of shallowness or hubris that I felt no qualms about turning the Big 65 on February 1? And when a good friend asked if I’d come to grips with my “monumental” age, I honestly could ask, “Monumental?”
Yes, in the midst of a crazy birthday weekend of Carol and Drew returning from Mayo, Josh surprising me with a birthday visit, and babysitting my 2 youngest grandchildren, we did release a few balloons over my momentous day … not to mention, stuffing my face at my favorite Italian restaurant. But instead of moaning and groaning, I’m actually pretty excited about reaching “Medicare Eligibility!” So in the spirit of David Letterman, here’s my Top 10 Reasons to Celebrate Turning 65:
10. An Extended Service Contract on any of my new purchases probably isn’t necessary.
9. My kids finally accept I will not eat dinner after 6 p.m.
8. The time devoted to getting my hair cut rapidly diminishes.
7. No one expects me to run into a burning building.
6. Instead of fibbing about missing a meeting, I’ve genuinely forgotten it.
5. Learning something the hard way no longer applies.
4. My fitness level expectations are non-existent.
3. The Best Buy sales staff no longer eyes me suspiciously on my 10th visit of the day.
2. In a hostage situation, they’ll probably release me first.
and 1. It seems Carol’s decided to stick around for my second act!
