February 2009 - Volume 5 - Issue 8

Publisher’s Note

First Family …

It’s been a busy couple of weeks and it looks like February will be even busier in the Felix household. First for January — we all survived the holidays with our wallets and sanity basically intact.

One of my personal highlights (you’ll have to indulge me here) was being installed as President of the South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum, a great organization dedicated to providing educational and networking opportunities for the professional development of local healthcare execs. An enthusiastic group assembled at the Miami Beach Resort for the 2009 Board installation (no, I did not walk down Collins Avenue) to hear about the Forum’s plans for the coming year. As much as I wanted to, Carol would not let me start my inaugural speech with "My Fellow Americans," but F.Y.I.: I did wear an American designer! And thanks to Zeff Ross of the Memorial Healthcare System, we only had to take the oath of office once. No do-over for this group!

But now it’s February — and what can I say? If you were even thinking about staying at my house, get over it. It’s not happening. There is no room at this inn. Like lemmings that get pushed into the ocean when a new group of lemmings arrives on shore — guests at the Felix Inn beware. Check-out dates will be strictly adhered to … unless you fancy sleeping double in a single bed. I think we have 3 consecutive weekends of company and a bulging pantry and freezer to prove it. And since February is my birthday month (much like my daughter-in-law Kris, I like to celebrate birthday months not days!), I get to celebrate with a whole new audience three separate times. I’m having visions of multiple birthday cakes as I write.

One of those visitations will be the first annual Felix "oldest generation" reunion, better known as my brother and sisters. All three, Ted, Fran and Shari accompanied by various spouses and a token child, are heading south for President’s Weekend. (It makes sense – they’re coming to visit me — a President!) But seriously, when our Dad passed away last spring, we decided it would be a good idea to reconnect again over the holiday weekend. Hopefully over 3 days of too much food and drink, we can reinforce those "ties that bind" just enough to stay good friends as well as relatives.

Now you’ll have to excuse me, I have a meeting with my chief of staff. (Carol wants me to walk the First Dog. By the way, this First Family has a Goldendoodle!)
