SFHHA Spring Summit Successful

Survey Conducted by The Doug Williams Group Confirms High Attendee and Exhibitor Satisfaction

On June 7th and 8th, hospital administrators and other affiliated professionals from across the state came together in search of Solutions for South Florida's Healthcare System. That was the title of the second annual Summit presented this year by the South Florida Hospital & Healthcare Association (SFHHA), the advocacy and support service organization that counts more than 55 hospitals and over 100 health care organizations in South Florida’s healthcare industry among its members.

Although the Summit is only in its second year, SFHHA President Linda Quick and Board Chairman C. Kennon Hetlage noted in the event's program that the event is rapidly becoming the premier spring healthcare conference in the region. To underscore the popularity the Summit has achieved in a relatively short time, June's two-day event drew more than 250 attendees and attracted the support of such prominent corporate sponsors as Tenet, Vitas, HCA and Ernst & Young,

"The combination of educational opportunities and the quality of the panelists and speakers was outstanding," says Jeremy Johnson, SFHHA vice president. "Overall," he continues, "it was a very positive educational opportunity for members, as well as for the community-at-large."

One major presentation at the Summit--provided by Ian Morrison, Ph.D, a noted healthcare economist and author – focused on state health plans (a topic of much discussion since some states began mandating health coverage for their residents a few years ago). Another speech, addressing the pursuit of a unified healthcare policy, was given by Jeffrey Selberg, a board member of the American Hospital Association.

In addition, breakout sessions addressed the prevention of emergency department emergencies; managing the workforce continuum from classroom to the care environment; transparency and accountability in making information public; and improving Medicare on the national, state and local levels. "We wanted to seek out organizations that have had success in dealing with some of the issues we are facing in South Florida," says Johnson.

And what's the general consensus of the second Summit from the attendees' points of view? According to The Doug Williams Group, the Miami-based performance improvement consulting firm that specializes in customer service, employee satisfaction, and profitability improvement, it was extremely positive.

Doug Williams, a longtime member of the SFHHA board of directors and s a member of the Summit's planning committee, volunteered his company's services for the Summit. The Doug Williams Group designed and conducted surveys that measured, separately, both exhibitor and attendee satisfaction. Both groups indicated that the Summit's two days were well spent. "We learned, through Doug's surveys, that we have a population of professionals who want to learn and seek out solutions," says Johnson. And we learned that they found the opportunities available at the Summit to be enlightening."

So much so, he adds, that the planning committee is currently reviewing The Doug Williams Group's survey results, preparing for next year's event and considering what to present. "We've already identified some things to modify for next year's Summit," he says, "and we're looking forward to another successful event; one that everyone who attends will find as beneficial as they did this year's Summit."
