This One's for the Girls! Luncheon Raises Funds for Underserved Women in Broward County New Girlfriend's Club: The Next Generation fundraising initiative announced during luncheon

The 11th Annual This One’s for the Girls! Luncheon, hosted by the Holy Cross Hospital Women Owning Wellness (WOW!) committee, raised more than $61,000 for the non-profit hospital’s Partners in Breast Health program.

Holy Cross Hospital’s Partners in Breast Health program at the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex is dedicated to assisting underserved and uninsured women access to breast health by offering mammograms and health assessments, while also providing outreach education. Partners include the Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Foundation, WOW!, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the 1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer and American Cancer Society, among others.

“Studies show that underserved and uninsured women are more likely to die from breast cancer due to lack of screenings and late-stage diagnoses, and our Partners in Breast Health program is determined to change that,” said Holy Cross Hospital President and CEO Patrick A. Taylor, M.D. “We appreciate the impact the WOW! committee, our sponsors and all who attend the luncheon have on this program.”

This year, Alice Jackson, along with Mary Mullen and Sheri Whittington who were honorary chairs of the luncheon, announced during the luncheon a new fundraising campaign to support the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center and Partners in Breast Health.

“Etched in glass in the lobby of the Women’s Center are the 200 members of the Girlfriend’s Club who donated funds as lifetime, founding members in support of the Women’s Center,” said Jackson. “We are continually asked how others can become girlfriends. So I am joining Mary (Mullen), Peggy (Marker) and Sheri (Whittington) in launching “Girlfriend’s Club: The Next Generation” to welcome 100 more Girlfriends into this special group. We are adding a new wall adjacent to the original wall with our inaugural 200 members that will have the names of the next generation of donors who become part of this important legacy.”

The This Ones for the Girls! Luncheon brings together a group of women every year who are passionate about helping other women in the community. They enjoy a pre-luncheon reception, shopping in the specialty boutique area for unique gifts, fashions and accessories, and a raffle with gift certificates from local restaurants and other donations from the boutiques.

Luncheon chairs were Jenny Guerin, Carolyn Huerkamp and Nicki Rowntree. Chair Eternal is the late Doreen Koenig.

Major sponsors were AutoNation and City Furniture. Supporting sponsors were Upchurch Management McDonald’s Restaurants and Worth Repeating Fine Consignments and underwriting sponsor was Joan Friezo. Beverage sponsor was Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits.
