As the famous adage goes, your patient’s needs always comes first. Healthcare providers ensure patients are comfortable in their setting – whether it’s in a hospital, doctor's office or outpatient clinic – and strive to provide exceptional care and quality.

One important aspect to this care is high quality medical linens. They allow your patients to feel more comfortable and at ease and just as critical clean lines can prevent the transmission of germs among patients and staff.

As a kid, did you use blankets to create a fort under a table, or build a sand castle with buckets and shovels, or erect a skyscraper with Legos? Most of the time, you built with materials on-hand according to whatever plan was in your head with little thought to what would happen when you tired of playing.

If you think this is an article about claims submissions and denials, data entry instructions, provider contracts, fee schedules, patient codes, federal regulations or DME documentation from a Provider Service Network (PSN) … wipe that yawn off your face and read on.

So, the midterm election of 2018 is now over. The election drew one of the largest electorate turnouts ever in a midterm election. Elements of the media have spoken of the results, using the term “a blue wave”. Indeed at the national level, the House did have a very significant turnover of House seats from Republican to Democrat. In the Senate, the blue wave had not been expected to occur, and indeed, it did not.

Definition: Aphasia gets in the way of a person's ability to use or understand words (or in our case, our Amazon Fire Cube has yet to understand us). Aphasia does not impair the “Cube’s” intelligence (but it does make one want to throw the cube through the front of the television).

Earlier this year we shared our thoughts on The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act’s provisions related to the healthcare industry. Physicians should plan for the potential short-term and long-term financial impact of these changes on their practices.

Confusion can reign when it involves employers trying to determine if something falls under their workers’ compensation coverage or their employer liability coverage. The fact is, many employers/medical practices do not even carry employer liability insurance, otherwise known as EPLI. In Florida, any non-construction employer with four (4) or more employees is required by law to carry workers’ compensation insurance.

A compliance department’s relationship with technology can be a bit, well, complicated. Every compliance department faces headaches caused by technology implemented or used inappropriately, and trusting technology to help resolve those problems can feel a bit naïve. Yet, listening to some sales pitches could make a person think that one magical purchase can resolve every issue.

With year-end 2018 fast approaching outlined below are recent 2019 IRS inflationary adjustments and also changes as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (“Act”) that affect our compliance with payroll and accounts payable reporting.

Twenty percent of health care spending in the United States comes from Medicare, the primary health care coverage for Americans 65 and older. Rumors abound as to how much fraud exists in Medicare. Authorities estimate that yearly about $19 billion to $65 billion is lost to Medicare fraud, waste or abuse.
