Dr. Brian Boe was named medical director for pediatric cardiac interventional services in August of last year, just in time to be among the first to work in the newly expanded Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, a facility that includes an entire floor dedicated exclusively to the care of cardiology patients.

“Ours is a team approach that has all the cardiac experts collaborating in the same space,” said Boe, who specializes in the treatment of congenital heart disease. “The procedural suites with 3D imaging are all adjacent to patient rooms, meaning there is less movement of those we’re caring for.”

Boe says its an exciting time in the catheterization lab, with technology advancing the procedures that can be done to correct what had previously required open surgery. Heart valves can now be replaced through a minimally-invasive transcatheter procedure and PDA closures in babies are now a bedside procedure.
