SFHHA is fortunate to have Andrew Idowu as an intern this summer. He found SFHHA through the Institute for Diversity, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association that works to increase healthcare leadership opportunities for ethnic minorities through educational programs. During the next few months, Andrew will be splitting his time between SFHHA and Healthcare Appraisers Inc. in Delray Beach. Andrew comes to SFHHA with a strong background in research and a desire to learn more about the healthcare industry. Andrew grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. This past year, Idowu completed his first year of the MD/MBA program at the University of Chicago. While in high school and college, Andrew participated in numerous research programs around

the country. Although Andrew found these experiences to be valuable, he decided to pursue other avenues in healthcare that generate results in the short-term and would allow him to have more contact with patients. He also wanted to develop a heightened understanding of the business side of healthcare.

Andrew believes that the large number of uninsured Americans is one of the most pressing issues today. That is part of the reason why he is attracted to emergency medicine, a field where all patients are treated regardless of their insurance status. In addition, he enjoys the dynamic pace of emergency medicine and would like to work internationally. Ultimately, Andrew hopes to start his own emergency medicine company.
