Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is proud to show appreciation to its nursing staff by participating in the DAISY Foundation’s nursing award celebration. This quarter, the hospital names Jaclyn Youngkin, RN and assistant nurse manager of the third floor its Daisy Award winner for providing extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care. Jaclyn discovered that one of her patients on the floor was celebrating 64 years of marriage with his wife. She went above and beyond by coordinating a special anniversary party, complete with a strawberry heart cake, personalized card and balloons. The initiative and compassionate care that Jaclyn showed her patient is just one example of the small, but significant gestures she makes on a regular basis.

The DAISY Award was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura) in 1999. Patrick’s family was so touched by the care he received from the nursing staff in his final days; they decided to create a program that honors’ nursing’s unique contribution to patients.
