January 5 2022- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted guidance for reporting the Preventive Care and Screening: Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening and Follow-Up Plan Eligible Professional/Eligible Clinician electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) used in CMS quality reporting programs for the 2022 Performance Period. There is no change to published specification.

Implementers reporting this measure should refer to the measure numerator as defined in the Clinical Quality Language (CQL) section of the measure specification. During the 2021 performance period a misalignment, identified in CMS69v9, between the numerator description in the measure narrative and the numerator logic led to suppression of the measure for the 2021 performance period. The issue remains present in the CMS69v10 and the posted guidance applies to the 2022 measurement period (January 1, 2022-December 31, 2022). This guidance is available on the Electronic Clinical Quality Improvement (eCQI) Resource Center site through the link below.

In addition, due to a change in the CQL the timing for documenting a quality action (the follow-up plan or intervention) changed and according to the CQL definition may in some cases extend beyond the end of the measurement period. Implementers may submit data per the defined timing in the specification, except when the quality action takes place beyond the end of the measurement period.
