In the spirit of health education, the Florida Heart Research Institute in partnership with the Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade is pleased to announce the 6th annual Florida Worksite Wellness Forum and Awards to be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa. We encourage any Florida based businesses with an interest in worksite wellness to attend the full day of workshops led by national and local leaders in the field including the awards luncheon with Keynote Speaker, David Hunnicutt, PhD, the Chief Executive Officer of WELCOA (Wellness Council of America). Dr. Hunnicutt is easily the best public speaker in the field of wellness – his passionate and animated style is known for creating that “aha!” moment when suddenly it all makes sense leaving his audience inspired to take on great challenges. Mark your calendars now for this important event and follow our website or contact us to be added to our email blasts so you can be notified as we release the details of the day’s activities. Group discounted room rates as low as $139 per night are available until one month before the event to those who must travel to attend.

After 20 years leading WELCOA, Dr. Hunnicutt recently announced that he will be stepping down – and a national search to replace him is underway. Under his leadership, WELCOA has grown to serve more than 5,000 member organizations and is now widely recognized as the nation’s top resource for worksite health promotion. Membership costs $365 a year (one dollar a day) and members receive access to countless tools, surveys, resources, webinars, newsletters, and detailed articles that provide step by step “how to” guidance for all aspects of programming. WELCOA routinely distributes millions of publications each year designed to increase quality of life, enhance employee productivity and improve personal health, and well-being. Known for his pragmatic approach and strong background in organizational development and corporate leadership, Dr. Hunnicutt is widely recognized as a national wellness advocate. We are honored that Dr. Hunnicutt will lead a morning workshop (where HR, CHES, RD and RN continuing education credits can be earned) as well as serve as our Keynote Speaker for the Awards Luncheon.

Last year, this event was attended by 150 wellness professionals, CEOs, CFOs and HR professionals – who left inspired to bring more wellness programming to their organizations and employees. We received a total of 24 total nominations for awards in small, mid-sized and large employer group categories. Ninety-six percent of attendees rated our workshops Good – Excellent. And 100% of our underwriting partners and exhibitors said there was value in participating and they would do so again. FHRI’s commitment to bring quality education in worksite wellness to Florida businesses lies in our core mission to stop heart disease through research, education and prevention. Worksite wellness is quickly gaining widespread recognition as the cornerstone of chronic disease prevention and health promotion. Now in its sixth year, this event was created to recognize those Florida-based businesses with worksite wellness programs with documented outcomes and to encourage more businesses to adopt worksite health promotion programming as a means to halt the continual rise in health insurance premiums, keep employees productive and healthy and improve the bottom line.
