Sponsors and participants raise funds and awareness in the Community

October 26, 2023 –   The adults and children served by New Horizons were the overall winners of the 2023 Annual Race for Recovery 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Walk!   The annual event is held in September coincides with recovery awareness and suicide prevention month activities around the nation.  With the perennial support of presenting sponsor HealthCite Pharmacy,  community members around the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee learn about and raise funds for these services.

“We are always so energized by this event, and this year was no different.  Coming in the middle of recovery month and suicide awareness month, we know how important it is to not only raise these needed funds but to also remind our community that we’re here and we’re available to you.  If we can’t help you, we will find help for you.  It’s that simple.” said William Wims, New Horizon’s CEO.

The overall Race Winner was Sara Aube.  The male Masters winner was David Blanchard.  The female Masters winner was Donna May.  Participants of all ages ranging from 7 to 80 years old laced up and helped the agency continue to support its community members.  Sponsors included Harry and Bulah Shaw, Hoskins, Turco, Lloyd & Lloyd, Sea Coast Air Conditioning, Insurance Office of America, Midway Family Dental Center, Grimes Heating and Air Conditioning, Park’s Rentals, Nelson Family Farms, Natalie’s, Southern Eagle Distributing, Inc., Orangetheory Fitness, Fleet Feet, Ekonomy Enterprises, Inc. AKA Dunkin Donuts Airoso Blvd., Gene Zweben, Debbie Hawley, Pat Austin, Judy Overdorf, and Carl and Kathryn Hensley.

New Horizons assists more than 15,000 members of the community a year, regardless of ability to pay for services.  Funds raised at the Race for Recovery go directly to the support of those with most need in New Horizon’s service area.

Plans are underway for the 2024 race.  Additionally,  New Horizons is honored to once again be a benefactor at the annual ‘Turkey Trot at Tradition’ on November 23, 2023 in Tradition, Port St. Lucie, Florida.  For more information on the Trot, contact turkeytrottradition@gmail.com or call 772-672-8383.
