The postcard read “all of us at the Jaffer Medical Group invite you, your family and friends to our 2nd Annual Patient Appreciation BBQ”. I was intrigued so I went and was blown away by what I experienced. At least two hundred patients, friends, family and pooches came to eat good food, socialize, listen to music of the 60’s, have a mini chair massage and rave about the care they receive from the doctors, nurse practitioners and staff. Munching on a burger I asked my table mates why they chose this medical group and it was unanimous…“they listen to me”; “we laugh”; “someone is always there when I need them”; “they care”. I overheard one patient say to Dr. Jaffer as he was leaving “you are my hero, thank you for everything”.

In a time when technology and not enough hours in the day seem to have taken over our lives, it was refreshing to see firsthand that the old fashioned bed side manner approach to patient centered care is not lost. Dr. Mohsin Jaffer, FAAFP, has been in practice as a family physician since1987 with a focus on geriatric medicine. He is an advocate for seniors 65+ and maintains the belief that most people have the capacity to live long and healthy lives. Therefore the primary goal for him and his staff is to help them do it. The oldest patient in the practice is102 and still going strong!

At one point, Dr. Jaffer addressed the group, his smile and energy was infectious. He thanked everyone for coming and said: “You’ve given us the most valuable gift in life of taking care of you. We are in the partnership of life together. If you feel comfortable with us you’re more likely to follow our advice. Thank you for putting your trust in us.”

It was an amazing afternoon and as a brand new member of the Jaffer family, I am confident that I made the right choice.
