South Miami Hospital, located at 6200 SW 73 Street in Miami, has several significant accomplishments over the last 10 years to celebrate. The Top 10 South Miami Hospital Accomplishments, 2003-2013 are:
1. Named the #1 hospital in South Florida by U.S. News & World Report, 2012-2013.
2. Accredited with Magnet status for nursing excellence two times, in 2004 and 2008.
3. Built a new Emergency Center and Surgical Suites that opened in January, 2013, and added 80,000 square feet to the hospital’s footprint .
4. Established in 2006 a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery through which surgeons – many of whom are pioneers in the field of robotic surgery – have since performed more than 10,000 robot-assisted surgical procedures.
5. Expanded the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to 49 beds in 2012, making it one of the largest NICUs in the state.
6. Named one of the safest hospitals in Miami-Dade County by the Leapfrog Group and Consumers Reports, 2012 and 2013.
7. Designated a Primary Stroke Center by the Agency for Healthcare Administration.
8. South Miami and Baptist Hospitals became first hospitals in Florida in 2012 to be fully accredited for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) by the Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence – the “gold standard” for heart attack care.
9. Established a Center for Women & Infants which has won several awards for providing top-quality care for maternity and NICU and specialized services, including maternal-fetal special care for high risk pregnancies, a Fibroid Center, a public cord blood donation program, urinary continence and pelvic floor testing and treatment and a Child Development Center.
10. With a $10-million donation from a grateful heart patient, established a Heart Rhythm Center featuring outpatient services to diagnose and treat electrical problems of the heart.
