June 12, 2023 – Palm Beach Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s is leading a community effort to provide area children struggling with hunger with a healthy breakfast during the summer months through its Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive benefitting the local Boys and Girls Club. The drive kicks off Monday, June 6 and runs through Thursday, June 22. We will deliver the food to the Boys and Girls Club on Friday, June 23rd.

Many households rely on food banks and other food programs to have access to the healthy meals they need to thrive. We recognize the importance of beginning each day with a nutritious breakfast and, through this drive, hope to help many in our community struggling with food insecurity. According to the Palm Beach Food Bank, more than 158,000 residents in Palm Beach County struggle with hunger, including over 48,000 of those residents being kids who don’t have enough to eat every day.
In the most recent school year in Palm Beach County every student was offered free breakfast and lunch. Whole-grain cereal, when part of a healthy, balanced breakfast including dairy, fruit, and lean protein, is a popular food item that experts say can easily address the hunger gap during the summer months when children are not in school.
Donations of healthy cereal to the Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive will be collected from June 12 through June 22 at St. Mary’s.
