December 7, 2023 – HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, a 435-bed full-service acute care facility, and part of HCA Florida Healthcare, the largest healthcare system in the state, today announced the official opening of the facility’s dedicated graduate medical education (GME) space.
The $3.1 million project offers advanced training within state-of-the-art classrooms and lecture spaces. The nearly 5,000 square-foot building is located adjacent to the hospital and provides a centralized space for interdisciplinary opportunities.
“HCA Healthcare’s graduate medical education is the largest sponsor of residency and fellowship programs across the nation with 66 hospitals participating across 16 states,” said Dr. Michael Bakerman, Chief Medical Officer at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital. “We are excited to provide our physicians of the future with a top-of-the-line dedicated space featuring the latest technology.”
The comprehensive audio-visual equipment and renovated areas, which include classrooms, conference rooms, workstations, offices, and a dedicated resident lounge area, were the largest investments. Previously, the space housed the hospital’s IT and accounting departments, which were relocated within the hospital.
“The opening of our dedicated graduate medical education space helps us ensure we continue to provide the highest level of care to our rapidly growing community and surrounding areas,” said HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital Chief Executive Officer Eric Goldman.
Lawnwood Hospital welcomed its inaugural GME class in late June of 2023. The initial class of 21 medical residents is part of more than 300 residency and fellowship programs provided by HCA Healthcare, part of the largest GME community in the United States.
