Mobile medical and dental unit to bring essential healthcare services to underserved areas
December 11, 2024 – Just in time for the holidays, Healthcare Network unveils the Van Domelen Health Express, a 45-foot mobile medical and dental unit to be delivered in mid-December to bring essential healthcare services to residents across Collier County, particularly in underserved areas. Made possible through a generous donation by local philanthropist Julia Van Domelen, this innovative unit will travel to healthcare deserts, including Everglades City and Chokoloskee, as well as neighborhoods, schools and community events.
“I am honored to support Healthcare Network’s mission to bring vital medical and dental care directly to those who need it most,” said donor Julia Van Domelen. “The Van Domelen Health Express represents a shared commitment to breaking down barriers to healthcare access and ensuring that all members of our community receive the care they deserve, wherever they are.”
The Van Domelen Health Express will deliver comprehensive medical and dental services similar to those offered in Healthcare Network clinics. With a wheelchair lift, restroom facilities and three spacious exam rooms, the unit is designed to meet routine healthcare needs while also serving as a vital resource during disasters.
Operated by Healthcare Network’s Outreach, Medical and Dental Operations teams, the unit ensures patients receive integrated services tailored to their needs. The three-room design allows multiple services to be provided simultaneously, increasing efficiency and reducing wait times. Its wheelchair-accessible layout underscores Healthcare Network’s dedication to inclusivity and accessibility.
“This mobile unit embodies our mission to make healthcare accessible for all, particularly for those who face barriers to care,” said Jamie Ulmer president and CEO of Healthcare Network. “We’re excited to see how the Van Domelen Health Express will transform how we serve Collier County, both in everyday care and in moments of urgent need.”
