Volunteers Help Build Community Engagement

MIAMI, FL — April 24, 2025 — The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation, a 501(c)(3), d/b/a A Safe Haven for Newborns, expresses its deepest gratitude to the volunteers across the nation who are dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities. “It is a great honor, and a humbling experience, to work side-by-side with such a dedicated group of volunteers who give selflessly of their time,” said Nick Silverio, Founder.

Volunteers play a crucial role in expanding the reach of A Safe Haven for Newborns within the community. They actively engage in community outreach and raise awareness about the Foundation’s services. By building community partnerships and promoting the mission to end infant abandonment, volunteers serve as the bridge between the nonprofit and the community. Their diverse experiences, perspectives, and skill sets enrich the Foundation and its mission. They are the pillars of their communities and the backbone of the Foundation.

Volunteers also contribute to the Foundation’s efforts through social media engagement. They can share their experiences and the positive impact they’ve made in their communities by tagging friends in social media posts. This helps spread awareness about the Foundation’s mission and encourages others to get involved. For students, A Safe Haven for Newborns has developed an App that allows them to fulfill their community service hours requirements from home. Once the school administrator approves the use of the App, students have the option to complete three tasks: create an awareness video, write an article for the monthly newsletter, or design a poster.

Through grassroots efforts, dedication, and community involvement, A Safe Haven for Newborns aims to reach teens and women facing unexpected pregnancies and provide them with the support they need in their local communities. Some of the referral services offered at no cost include temporary shelter, maternity homes, counseling, health-related issues, transportation to prenatal care appointments, newborn necessities, assistance with abuse issues, suicide prevention, and information on adoption. A Safe Haven for Newborns also oversees a 24/7 multilingual confidential national helpline, offering support and guidance to distraught mothers in their respective states.

To date, 425 lives have been given a chance at life, with 413 in Florida, nine in other states, and one in Honduras. Over 6,000 teens and women have received assistance during their time of need. As Silverio, stated, “We believed from the beginning that if only one life was saved, all our efforts would be worthwhile.”
