June 16, 2025– Good Samaritan Medical Center is proud to announce that Dr. Eduardo Parra-Davila, a general, colorectal, and bariatric surgeon, has been awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The award, presented on Saturday, May 10, honors American citizens whose accomplishments in their field and service to others exemplify the spirit of America.
Dr. Parra-Davila was recognized alongside 79 other distinguished recipients for his contributions to robotic surgery, dedication to global medical education, and commitment to improving patients’ lives through advanced surgical care.
The Ellis Island Medal of Honor celebrates individuals who embody the American ideals of tolerance, compassion, and community. Honorees are chosen for their outstanding contributions to society while upholding the values of their cultural heritage. Past recipients include U.S. presidents, Nobel laureates, and leaders in medicine, science, education, and the arts.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Parra-Davila has performed more than 3,000 robotic surgeries, many at Good Samaritan Medical Center’s state-of-the-art Robotic Surgical Institute. His minimally invasive approach reduces the need for open surgery, often shortening recovery times and lowering the risk of complications.
Dr. Parra-Davila’s surgical expertise includes bariatric weight loss surgery, colorectal cancer treatment, hernia repair, and gastroesophageal conditions. Beyond the operating room, he has trained thousands of surgeons globally and contributed to significant research in robotic and minimally invasive surgery. He has performed surgeries around the world.
A native of Venezuela, Dr. Parra-Davila earned his medical degree from the University of Los Andes in Merida. He completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by fellowships in Advanced Laparoscopy and Colon and Rectal Surgery in Texas.
He is a founding member of the Society of Robotic Surgery and the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association and a former board member of the American Hernia Society. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, Dr. Parra-Davila continues to serve as a mentor and global ambassador for advancing surgical excellence.
