July 22, 2025 – Jennifer H. Barb of Fort Lauderdale has been selected as a 2025 Western Governors University (WGU) Distinguished Graduate.

Barb is one of 14 WGU alumni nationwide recognized for work and volunteer efforts going above and beyond what is required, and who has made significant contributions to their respective communities and career fields.

Barb earned her MBA in healthcare management in 2024 from WGU, the nation’s leading nonprofit, online university. She serves as director of communications and community engagement at HCA Florida Healthcare in Fort Lauderdale, where she focuses on enhancing patient care and community outreach. Previously, she played a key role at Memorial Healthcare System, raising over $10 million for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history from the University of Mississippi.

“Earning my MBA through WGU has been one of the most transformative experiences of my professional journey. The program challenged me to think critically, lead strategically, and approach healthcare with a broader, more innovative perspective,” says Barb. “As a healthcare leader, the skills I developed – from operational insight to executive-level decision making – have directly contributed to my growth and effectiveness.”

Barb says completing the program in just one year while balancing a full-time leadership role and personal responsibilities was demanding, but it reinforced her determination and passion for this work. “I’m incredibly honored to be recognized with the Distinguished Graduate Award and proud to be part of a university that equips leaders to make a real difference in the world.”
