For more than 15 years, Cleveland Clinic has served the West Palm Beach community through its outpatient center at CityPlace. Now, the internationally respected academic health system is increasing its footprint in the area with the construction of a new hospital and greatly expanded outpatient services.
This expansion, which will take place over a number of years, will begin with a new, four-floor, 120,000 sq. ft. outpatient center at 15 CityPlace, which will quadruple the square footage of the existing Cleveland Clinic Health Center. The outpatient center is expected to open in November 2027, with the new hospital slated for completion approximately four years from now.
According to Conor P. Delaney, M.D., Ph.D., executive vice president, Cleveland Clinic, and president, Cleveland Clinic Florida Market, this comprehensive healthcare plan for West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Country will connect care in South Florida from Weston Hospital up the coast to Martin, Tradition, and Indian River hospitals north of Palm Beach.
“There are a number of drivers behind this project,” he explained. “Our mission as a not-for-profit is to serve patients and there was a gap in the network where patients were not being served. There has also been a lot of growth in this area, and we’ve been asked by the community to expand our emergency and specialty services to meet that need.”
Dr. Delaney noted that such an extensive project could not take place without the support of the community, which he credits for moving the development forward. A fundraising campaign launched in February 2025 has already raised nearly $150 million for the $500 million project, including a “lead gift” of $50 million from real estate developer, philanthropist and Miami Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross.
New Facilities, Expanded Services
Cleveland Clinic’s new outpatient location will be located in a new building being constructed at CityPlace, near its former location. Expanded outpatient services will include chemotherapy and infusion therapy, a concierge medicine program, imaging, endoscopy and outpatient surgery.
Plans for the new hospital include approximately 150 inpatient beds with the ability to expand to 200 beds, an emergency department, a medical office building and an ambulatory surgery center. The hospital will be located on newly acquired land next to Clear Lake in West Palm Beach.
“In order to realize what the community was asking for—particularly emergency heart and stroke services—we needed an inpatient facility,” said Dr. Delaney, noting that cardiology, neurology, urology, orthopedics and cancer service lines will also be expanded. “One of the exciting things about these facilities is that they are literally less than a block from each other, allowing physicians and patients to easily go from the hospital to the ambulatory center.”
Cleveland Clinic Florida’s expansion will not only provide more access for patients and providers, but is expected to benefit the community economically as well.
“This will be the first new hospital constructed in this area in many decades, and hospitals tend to provide very good jobs in the communities they serve,” said Dr. Delaney, estimating that approximately 2,000 jobs may be created as a result of the expansion. “We are very excited about our partnerships in the community and the ability to bring in high-end, highly trained jobs.”
