October 13, 2025 — Sunshine Health, a company of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), invites healthcare providers across Florida to join the next session in its Maternal Project ECHO series: Perinatal Substance Use on Thursday, October 23, 2025. October is Substance Abuse Awareness Month, and this session will cover the effects of drug and alcohol use in pregnancy and during breastfeeding, medical and non-medical treatments for substance use, and more. Participation is open to physicians, nurses, social workers, community health workers and other care professionals.

Project ECHO: Expanding Knowledge, Improving Care
Sunshine Health’s Maternal Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) connects providers to expert-led training and peer collaboration. Each session features real-world scenarios and best practices in maternal health. Participants who register can revisit the presentations on the Project ECHO platform.
Recent sessions included:
- Motivational Interviewing & Therapeutic Interventions (April 24, 2025): Led by Dr. Heather Flynn of FL BH IMPACT (Improving Maternal and Pediatric Access Care and Treatment), this session focused on strategies to address patient ambivalence and inspire behavioral change.
- Treating Depression in Pregnancy (June 26, 2025): Dr. Kay Roussos-Ross guided participants through screening tools, SSRI safety and stigma reduction for maternal mood disorders.
- Perinatal Anxiety (August 28, 2025): Led by Dr. Kaleen Richards – DNP, CNM, APRN, FACNM, and COO Tree of Life Birth and GYN – this session focused on the prevalence of perinatal anxiety and effective treatments and resources.
