At 94, few people keep a schedule as busy as Gen Cordes. For the past 25 years, she has volunteered at Broward Health Imperial Point, bringing energy, compassion and a warm smile to every corner of the hospital.
After retiring as a business owner, Cordes moved from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale to be closer to her daughter and soon discovered a new calling at the hospital.
She volunteers two days a week, primarily in the gift shop, but has supported nearly every department, including Same-Day Surgery, Ways & Means and Patient Services. Cordes also helps oversee Auxiliary efforts, attends hospital community events and organizes jewelry sales and vendor events that raise funds for the hospital.
“Volunteers can be advocates for the families of patients, too,” she said. “Sometimes they just need a smile or a welcome distraction from their worries.”
Her dedication embodies the heart of volunteerism at Broward Health Imperial Point.
