June 18, 2026– Delray Medical Center is the first hospital in Palm Beach County to perform a procedure using AMDS™ Hybrid Prothesis. The milestone procedure was completed by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Jeff Newman. This advanced medical device, recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under a Humanitarian Device Exemption (HDE), represents a significant step forward in the treatment of aortic dissections.

AMDS™ Hybrid Prothesis is the first device designed specifically to address the unique challenges of acute DeBakey Type I aortic dissections complicated by malperfusion. It’s unique stent-supported cuff combined with a robust distal anastomosis reduces the risk of distal anastomotic new entry (DANE).1-3 The uncovered stent stabilizes the true lumen, helping to resolve dynamic malperfusion and induce positive aortic remodeling.1-3
“This is a proud moment for our hospital, our surgical teams, and most importantly, our patients,” said Delray Medical Center CEO, Heather Havericak. “Bringing this potentially life-saving device to our facility demonstrates our commitment to providing cutting-edge care and offering the most advanced treatment options available.”
“This device gives us a powerful new tool in the fight against life-threatening aortic dissections,” said Dr. Newman. “We are excited about the improved outcomes it can offer our patients.”
The hospital’s early adoption of this groundbreaking technology positions it as a leader in cardiovascular innovation and patient care.
