For Nicole Carty, MPH, MSN ’22, being an FAU Owl did not end when she crossed the commencement stage. It became the beginning of a lasting connection to the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing—one rooted in mentorship, service and a desire to help the next generation of nurses find their way.
“As alumni, we have a unique opportunity to support future nurses while continuing to grow ourselves professionally,” Carty says. “The College of Nursing has given us so much, and staying connected allows us to give back in meaningful ways.”
Since joining the Network’s leadership team nearly three years ago, Carty has helped strengthen connections among alumni, students, faculty and staff. Her involvement reflects the Network’s mission of creating opportunities for graduates to stay engaged with the college, reconnect with classmates and support nursing students.
Professionally, Carty serves as a clinical educator at the Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where she develops and implements educational programs for nursing staff and supports ongoing professional development initiatives.
In addition to her work at the VA, Carty remains actively involved with the college by precepting students and serving as a mentor. Through these roles, she helps bridge the gap between the classroom and clinical practice, sharing real-world experiences and guidance with nursing students as they prepare to enter the profession. She has also returned to Florida Atlantic as a doctoral student and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in nursing.
Over the past several years, the college has expanded opportunities for alumni engagement.
The Nursing Professionals Alumni Network is planning several new opportunities for graduates to reconnect this fall, including reunions, tailgates and alumni Foodie events designed to bring graduates together in both social and professional settings.
“Our alumni remain an essential part of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing community,” says Cameron Duncan, Ph.D., dean of the college. “Whether they return as preceptors, mentors or guest speakers, they bring invaluable knowledge and experience that enriches our students’ educational journeys.
