Driven by a desire to make a lasting difference, Elizaveta “Liza” Houellemont, LMHC, chose a career in mental health to help people build healthier relationships with themselves and create more fulfilling lives. Working in substance use treatment, she finds the greatest reward in seeing patients commit to recovery and experience meaningful transformation.
As a licensed clinical therapist at Memorial Regional Hospital’s Outpatient Behavioral Health Center, Houellemont is especially proud to have helped develop and coordinate the mental health counseling internship program, supporting and mentoring future clinicians at Memorial’s teaching hospital.
Houellemont believes caring for the whole person begins with listening. “Sometimes one of the most important things we can do is slow down, listen to a patient’s story and understand the person, not just the symptoms,” Houellemont said. “Progress looks different for everyone.”
She reminds fellow professionals that self-care and healthy boundaries are essential for preventing burnout.
