The dedication of her team is a daily source of inspiration for Merita Rouge, LCSW, QS, social work manager at Memorial Regional Hospital. She sees firsthand how social work case managers and nurse case managers navigate difficult days while continuing to show up for patients, families and one another.
“Some days are amazing and others can be rough, but my staff take every day as a challenge,” Rouge said. “They find something, work through it and come back the next day with a positive attitude.”
Rouge calls it “finding miracles in the everyday,” moments when hard work results in relief or a smile from a patient or family member. Case managers often enter people’s lives during their most difficult moments, and for Rouge, providing comfort and making those days a little easier is what makes the work worthwhile. That is her why.
