Acquisition Broadens XRHealth’s Therapeutic Offering With Virtual Activities of Daily Living Grounded in Established Principles of Occupational Therapy and Neuropsychology
November 2, 2026 — XRHealth, a leading platform for therapeutic technologies, today announced the acquisition of living brain based in Heidelberg, Germany, expanding its portfolio of immersive cognitive training and rehabilitation solutions. The acquisition strengthens XRHealth’s ability to deliver engaging, personalized therapeutic experiences through virtual activities of daily living based on established principles of occupational therapy and neuropsychology.
“The acquisition of living brain represents another step in our vision to build a comprehensive ecosystem of digital therapeutics that delivers personalized care across multiple technologies,” says Eran Orr, CEO of XRHealth. “Cognitive rehabilitation plays an important role in helping people navigate everyday life, and living brain’s immersive approach brings therapy closer to the real-world activities patients need to master. By integrating these capabilities into XRHealth’s growing platform, we aim to expand access to engaging, personalized therapeutic experiences that can extend beyond traditional clinical settings.”
As part of the acquisition, XRHealth will incorporate living brain’s flagship product, teora® mind, a virtual therapeutic environment that transforms traditional rehabilitation into an immersive, interactive experience. Patients can practice everyday activities in lifelike settings, such as kitchens, gardens, and stores, providing engaging, real-world simulations beyond the conventional therapy room.
“Our goal has always been to help people regain cognitive abilities and return to the activities that matter in their daily lives as quickly as possible,” says Julian Specht, Founder and CEO of living brain. “Virtual reality offers a unique opportunity to stimulate the brain in ways that traditional rehabilitation alone cannot, immersing patients in interactive environments that engage multiple cognitive domains simultaneously. Every scenario, training objective and interaction in teora® mind is intentionally designed to support neuroplasticity and promote cognitive recovery. By joining XRHealth, we can expand the reach of this approach and help more patients benefit from immersive, personalized cognitive rehabilitation.”
Teora® mind has been evaluated at seven clinical sites around Germany in partnerships with hospitals and insurers. The results have been published in peer-reviewed journals, with further results forthcoming. In a randomized controlled trial with neurorehabilitation patients, published in JMIR Serious Games in 2023, training with teora® mind proved more effective than conventional computer-based cognitive training in several cognitive domains.
Additionally, a 2021 study titled Impact of Virtual Reality-based Therapies on Cognition and Mental Health of Stroke Patients: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis revealed the efficacy of VR-based therapies in improving executive function, memory, and visuospatial function in stroke patients. When comparing VR-based therapy with traditional therapy, all three functionalities improved significantly amongst patients who experienced VR intervention.
The acquisition also includes teora® platform, a web application that enables therapists to create and manage patient profiles, monitor training data, and track therapeutic progress; teora® body, a virtual reality solution that promotes upper-extremity motor rehabilitation through playful exercises designed to support everyday movements; and teora® Supervisor, which allows therapists to livestream content from a patient’s VR headset directly to a tablet, enabling real-time monitoring of therapy sessions.
Teora® mind features 25 interactive, everyday-life scenarios with customizable difficulty levels, enabling therapists to tailor exercises to individual patients’ needs and adjust training as progress is made. Designed for use across locations, the platform allows patients to participate in cognitive training and rehabilitation beyond traditional clinical settings. teora® mind is an MDR Class IIa certified medical device and one of the only certified medical devices for cognitive training in Europe.
