SELUTION SLR™ Drug Eluting Balloon procedure performed at Good Samaritan Medical Center less than two months after receiving FDA approval

November 5th, 2026 – Good Samaritan Medical Center is the first hospital in South Florida to perform a procedure utilizing Selution SLR, a recently FDA-approved treatment option for patients with coronary in-stent restenosis (ISR), a condition where a previous coronary stent becomes narrowed or blocked again. The milestone procedure was completed by invasive-interventional cardiologist, Dr. Brijeshwar Maini.

In patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), ISR can occur due to recurrent plaque buildup or tissue growth inside the stent, reducing blood flow to the heart. Treating ISR can be complex, particularly in patients who have undergone multiple prior procedures, given that placing additional stents may increase the risk of complications and limit future treatment options.

“Bringing this procedure to South Florida is a testament to the innovation taking place and advanced care being offered at Good Samaritan Medical Center,” said Dr. Maini. “Treating ISR can be particularly complex, especially in patients who have already undergone multiple interventions. This approach gives us another way to treat these blockages in some patients without adding another stent, which can be important in preserving future treatment options for our patients.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the SELUTION SLR DEB on September 21, 2026, for treatment of coronary in-stent restenosis. This next-generation DEB is designed to deliver consistent and predictable release of the drug sirolimus over 90 days, addressing the biological processes that contribute to restenosis while allowing physicians to treat recurrent blockages without placing an additional stent. Clinical data shows SELUTION SLR DEB can provide a safe alternative to the standard of care for ISR. Some patients who have already been treated with SELUTION SLR DEB report relief in having the option to avoid another stent placement.

Good Samaritan, part of Palm Beach Health Network, has begun treating eligible patients with the SELUTION SLR DEB as part of its ongoing commitment to advancing cardiovascular care. Dr. Brijeshwar Maini leads the hospital’s Center for Preventive Cardiac Medicine, which provides a full suite of advanced diagnostic services designed to detect heart conditions before they become critical. Under Dr. Maini’s leadership, Good Samaritan has expanded its capabilities to offer innovative surgical options to patients such as the WATCHMAN FLX Pro.
