Next generation technology delivers up to 512-slice cardiac imaging and captures the heart in a single heartbeat, bringing advanced cardiovascular care closer to home

NOVEMBER 6, 2026 – Oviedo, Fla. — Oviedo Medical Center, part of HCA Florida Healthcare, is elevating cardiovascular care in Central Florida with the addition of one of Greater Orlando’s most advanced cardiac computed tomography (CT) scanners. Featuring technology capable of delivering up to 512-slice cardiac imaging and capturing the entire heart in a single heartbeat, the new system provides exceptional imaging detail to help physicians diagnose cardiovascular conditions with greater speed and precision.

The advanced scanner is particularly beneficial for patients undergoing coronary CT angiography, a noninvasive examination that provides detailed images of the coronary arteries to help identify plaque buildup, narrowing and potential blockages.

“This is a gamechanger for cardiovascular care in our community,” said Cameron Howard, CEO of Oviedo Medical Center. “We’re bringing some of the most sophisticated cardiac imaging technology available right here to Oviedo. With the ability to capture the entire heart in a single heartbeat, this investment reflects our commitment to making advanced heart care more accessible and giving patients exceptional diagnostic capabilities close to home.”

The scanner combines artificial intelligence-assisted imaging, advanced motion-correction technology and automated workflows to enhance image quality, shorten scan times and improve the patient experience. These capabilities are especially valuable for patients with elevated heart rates, irregular heart rhythms or other conditions that can make traditional cardiac imaging more challenging.

“For patients who need a coronary CT angiogram, this technology offers a significant advantage,” said Dr. Bob Shaver, chief medical officer at Oviedo Medical Center. “The ability to capture highly detailed images of the coronary arteries quickly and accurately gives our physicians a powerful tool to evaluate heart disease, guide treatment decisions and provide a more efficient, comfortable patient experience.”

Beyond cardiac imaging, the new CT scanner supports a wide range of diagnostic examinations. Its addition further strengthens Oviedo Medical Center’s expanding cardiovascular program and reflects the hospital’s commitment to bringing innovative technology and high-quality care closer to home.
