Recently, students from American Heritage Schools’ Pre-Medical Program, from both of their Broward and Palm Beach campuses, donned their capes and organized the 24th Annual Superhero Party at the Salah Pediatric Oncology Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center for pediatric cancer patients.
Young heroes decorated the auditorium with superhero-themed ornaments and lights the night before the event. The students had a blast interacting with the pediatric cancer patients while playing games and creating crafts.
The main goal of the event was to help the children write their wish lists for Santa! For each list, American Heritage Schools Pre-Medical Program students plan to raise funds to make those wishes come true and celebrate with the children at their holiday party taking place on Dec. 8, at 12 p.m., at the Broward Health Medical Center Heliport.
The hospital staff, along with Mina Amini, Regional Director of Physician Services, supported the students in their mission to brighten the lives of young superheroes battling cancer at the Salah Pediatric Oncology Unit. The Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center is a vital resource for comprehensive pediatric hematology-oncology care in South Florida, committed to research and compassionate patient support.
American Heritage Schools’ Pre-Medical Program students have hosted this initiative for 24 years. The students’ passion for contributing and community involvement is reflected in the thousands of dollars raised through local fundraising events, which enabled them to build two new pediatric playrooms at Broward General Hospital.

American Heritage Schools’ four-year Pre-Medical program is unlike any other. The program culminates in a senior year internship when students experience the practice of medicine in real life. Seniors leave campus a few times per week to rotate through different aspects of medical practices throughout South Florida. Students experience the practice of medicine in hospitals, operating rooms, and doctors’ offices. There are 35 different specialties in the internship, such as neurosurgery, radiology, pathology, forensic science, and oncology. The connections our seniors make with practicing medical professionals are invaluable and often result in future medical school acceptances and jobs.
