The upgrade reflects the health system’s multiyear trend of solid operating performance and cash flow, improving unrestricted reserves and continued growth in its market position.

“The continued strengthening of our credit rating reflects the disciplined work of our entire health system and our commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable organization for the children and families we serve,” said Matthew A. Love, President and CEO of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. “It also recognizes the progress we are making through strategic growth, clinical excellence and partnerships that are expanding access to specialized pediatric care throughout South Florida so that no child has to leave home for the care they need.”

S&P Global Ratings cited a multiyear trend of solid operating performance and cash flow, improving unrestricted reserves and days’ cash on hand, as well as Nicklaus Children’s leading and growing position in pediatric health care. The agency also noted the health system’s continued focus on strategic growth, clinical excellence and partnerships across its expanding service area.

The Broward Health North team cuts the ribbon on the new CT scanner and X-ray machine

The new equipment will be permanently hosted inside the emergency room, enabling faster, more efficient care for patients.

AUGUST 14, 2026–  – Broward Health North unveiled a major investment in emergency care with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating new CT scan and X-ray equipment located directly inside the emergency room. The new imaging technology is just steps from ER triage, allowing patients to receive critical scans quickly without leaving the ER to go to the hospital’s imaging center. The event was celebrated by Broward Health leadership and physicians, Broward Sheriff’s Office personnel, construction and design teams and local EMS agencies from Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach and Lighthouse Point.

“This new ER imaging suite represents a major investment in the patients and community we serve,” said Matthew K. Garner, CEO of Broward Health North. “Having this equipment directly in the ER, right where our EMS partners bring critical patients, allows us to deliver even faster, more precise care in the moments that matter most.”

The advanced equipment allows technologists to capture up to 640 cross-sectional images of the body per rotation with near-instantaneous reconstruction, enabling 3D imaging for CTs of the coronary arteries, angiograms and perfusion studies to be performed steps from the trauma bay. Patients will now have a CT scanner just seconds away from any ER room, compared to what used to be located further away in the hospital’s main imaging department, and X-ray patients will be imaged on a stationary table rather than relying solely on portable equipment.

“Having CT scan and X-ray services located directly in the emergency room will make a significant difference, especially for patients experiencing a stroke or other life-threatening emergencies,” said Evan Boyar, M.D., chief medical officer of Broward Health. “Every second matters when someone is having a stroke, and being able to get a scan more quickly can help us diagnose and begin treatment faster. This means faster results, faster decisions and faster treatment.”

Hospital leaders credited years of collaboration among Broward Health North’s executive leadership, radiologists and partners Robins & Morton, Siemens Healthineers and Little Diversified Architectural Consulting for bringing the project to life. To close out the ribbon-cutting event, Darren Bennett, associate chaplain with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, offered a blessing over the new equipment and the staff who will operate it.

Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center, 1409 NW 6th Street, in Fort Lauderdale. This community event will take place from 8 a.m. through 2 p.m. and is open to all Broward County residents.
