Racing for Cancer partners with Nova Southeastern University in memory of Ryan Hunter-Reay’s mother
 
 
 
June 14 2021 – IndyCar driver, Indy 500 Champion and Fort Lauderdale native Ryan Hunter-Reay and his wife Beccy, through their charity Racing for Cancer, have established the Hunter-Reay Family Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund with Nova Southeastern University (NSU). The fund will support scholarships for students at NSU’s Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing who have an interest in serving oncology patients.
 
 
“This scholarship gift will help attract the best and brightest students who are interested in oncology nursing,” said Shari Meehan, NSU Director of Development. “Racing for Cancer, Ryan and Beccy’s charity, together with partner AutoNation, share our vision and core values to train competent and confident nurse leaders who will transform the delivery of nursing care in our communities and beyond. We are very grateful for their steadfast partnership and support over the years. Everyone here extends sincere thanks for their generosity and support.”
 
The Hunter-Reays know the value nurses play in the detection and prevention of cancer. Ryan Hunter-Reay’s late mother, Lydia, was a nurse who battled cancer. They saw first-hand the impact Lydia had on her patients and were also moved by the impact and caring of the oncology nurses who cared for her through her cancer journey and passing. The Hunter-Reay family felt it was important to ensure a legacy for Lydia that invests in others committed to care and the cure.
 
“Nearly 28 million people world-wide are battling some form of cancer. Our goal with Racing for Cancer is to help make the world cancer free. We believe that investing in nursing students committed to our cause ensures that our efforts will continue for years to come,” said Hunter-Reay. “My mother would be so proud to know that her legacy lives on in nurses who serve the cancer community throughout the world.”
 
This scholarship endowment is just one of many efforts in the United States and Canada that Racing for Cancer has supported in the fight against cancer. None of which could be possible without AutoNation, DHL, and many other donors who continue to believe in their mission.

June 14 2021 – Stylish and professional medical scrubs are coming to Pembroke Pines! June 14, 2021 – In support of children and families with special healthcare needs, Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) will host the 15th Annual Ribbons for the Children on Thursday, September 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Galleria in Fort Lauderdale. 
 
Guests will enjoy a fabulous selection of wines and passed hors d’oeuvres from Galleria’s premier restaurants, such as Cooper’s Hawk, as well as other local restaurants and have the opportunity to bid on original work created and donated by talented local artists. This year’s art exhibition will feature both a silent and online auction. 
 
“We are proud that 100% of proceeds from the art auction directly support CDTC’s programs and services for the children and families in our community,” said Chuck Williams, event founder and co-chair. “We are incredibly grateful to all the local artists who continue to come back each year and for the new artists who generously donate their time and talent to support the mission of CDTC.”

June 14, 2021 – Seif Elbualy, M.D., joins Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health, as the director of interventional pain management. Dr. Elbualy specializes in interventional pain management, particularly for spine-related pain and failed back surgery syndrome. He has more than 25 years of experience utilizing medication management and interventional pain therapy. He performs all fluoroscopically guided epidural and selective nerve root blocks, ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks, and radiofrequency denervation. He has additional expertise in spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation and intrathecal pump implantation.
 
“We are pleased Dr. Elbualy has joined Marcus Neuroscience Institute,” said Frank Vrionis, M.D., medical director at Marcus Neuroscience Institute. “He has more than 25 years of experience treating patients with chronic pain conditions and we know he’ll be a valued addition to our team.”
 
Dr. Elbualy will contribute to the patient-centered, comprehensive, coordinated, multi-disciplinary care for individuals who live with back pain and other pain conditions. His vision for expanding interventional pain services at the Institute is to provide access to the full continuum of spine and pain care at one location. By continuing to develop a “best practice” clinical model, the team will have a full complement of resources to effectively evaluate and treat all areas of pain impacting patients.
 
Dr. Elbualy joins Marcus Neuroscience Institute from the Comprehensive Center for Pain Management at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, where he served as director. He is currently an affiliate assistant professor at the Charles A. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University.
 
Dr. Elbualy earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He then completed a pain management fellowship at Georgetown University.
 
He will see patients at 800 Meadows Road in Boca Raton.

Sponsorships for in-person events had been temporarily paused due to COVID-19
 
June 10, 2021 – Lee Health is pleased to announce it is reopening the review process of corporate sponsorship requests for in-person events. In mid-April, the health system resumed sponsorship requests for virtual and outdoor events. All sponsorships for events had been temporarily paused due to COVID-19.
 
Any interested organization can now apply online by visiting Lee Health’s Community Contributions Program website at www.leehealth.org/about-us/community-affairs/sponsorship. Instructions and eligibility requirements are listed on the site.
Lee Health is dedicated to giving back to the community and, through its Community Contributions Program, provides support to registered 501(c)(3) organizations in Southwest Florida.

For unvaccinated people who are attending a small, outdoor gathering with fully vaccinated and unvaccinated people, they are safest when they wear a mask, stay 6 feet apart and wash their hands frequently, according to the CDC.
