Benefit at Banyan Cay Resort & Golf raised nearly $250,000 towards addiction treatment scholarships

May 7 2021 – One hundred golfers teed off on Monday, April 12 at the Jack Nicklaus designed Banyan Cay Resort & Golf in West Palm Beach for Hanley Foundation’s 22nd Annual Golf Classic. The “Monday After the Masters” benefit raised nearly $250,000 that will go directly to the Foundation’s Lifesaver Scholarship Program, which provides crucial access to quality treatment for those suffering from addiction.

The annual outdoor benefit began with remarks from Hanley Foundation’s CEO Jan Cairnes and Chief Development Officer Turner Benoit, who thanked this year’s leadership including Co-Chairs Nancy Caraboolad, Virginia Mortara and Nellie Benoit. Honorary chairs included Gary Harris and Suzanne Holmes.

“Thank you all for being here today to support Hanley Foundation,” said Turner Benoit. “It’s great to see so many familiar faces in person again. In one way or another, COVID-19 has impacted countless people over the past year. And, it has been especially difficult for those in recovery. As of January, Palm Beach County overdoses have risen by 30 percent, and calls to Hanley Foundation for scholarship support have more than tripled. That’s why it is especially significant this year that all proceeds go toward our treatment scholarship program. Because of your participation in today’s tournament, you are helping us save lives.”

Hanley Foundation supporters, event chairs and the Foundation’s Board of Directors rallied around this year’s increased need for lifesaving treatment support within Palm Beach County. Adhering to all COVID-19 safety precautions, the Foundation held its first in-person event since last year prior to the pandemic. Garnering nearly $250,000 in support, the 2021 Golf Classic turned out to be the Foundation’s most successful golf tournament to date.

Mrs. Benoit, who celebrated a special birthday during the tournament, and her team including Scilla Smith, Mari Frankel and Liza Calhoun won the “Lowest Net” score. In addition, the “Lowest Gross” score winners included Drew D’Alessandro, Albert Kurtz, Ahmed Rashwan and Terry Macho.

Sponsors for the 2021 Golf Classic included Double Eagle Sponsor: Origins Behavioral HealthCare, LLC; Eagle Sponsor: Hanley Family Foundation; Birdie Sponsor: Anne and Matt Hamilton; BRC Recovery; Cumberland Heights; FHE Health; Futures of Palm Beach; Guardian Recovery Network; Judy and Fritz Van der Grift; Nancy and Geoff Caraboolad; Nellie Benoit; M&T Bank | Wilmington Trust; Stoops Family; Teneo Capital Management; Virginia Mortara; Hospitality Cart Sponsor: A.Z. This is the fourth time in a row that Tykes & Teens has earned this accreditation, including 2011, 2014, 2017 and 2020.

Tykes & Teens underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review December 29 – 30, 2010. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Behavioral Health Care and Human Services standards spanning several areas, including emergency management, infection prevention and control, and leadership among others.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Tykes & Teens for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

All new and revised standards are reviewed and interpreted by Tykes & Teens’ Continuous Quality Improvement Committee prior to policy and procedure updates and revisions.

The vaccination clinic is open to anyone; you do not need to be a Lee Health patient to get the vaccine.
All vaccines will be administered at Gulf Coast Medical Center. You can schedule your appointment by visiting www.leehealth.org.

Lee Health is currently offering Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines for those over 18 years-old. Through the online scheduling system, you will be able to select which vaccine you would like to receive, if both are available. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which is approved for use in those 16 years-old and above is being offered to 16 and 17 year-olds.

May 6, 2021 – With Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month coming up in June, The Carlisle Palm Beach, a Senior Lifestyle community, is getting revved up for its inaugural auto show to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

To take place Saturday, May 15, The Carlisle Palm Beach Classic Auto Show will support The Longest Day, an annual fundraising campaign of the Alzheimer’s Association that encourages participants to combat the darkness of Alzheimer’s on or around the day with the most sunlight, the summer solstice.

“The entire team at The Carlisle is excited for our upcoming event as part of the entire Senior Lifestyle Corporation who are also having events across the country to support The Longest Day,” said Richard Tournesy, executive director of The Carlisle Palm Beach.

In addition to a variety of classic cars, the event will feature food, a silent auction, offerings from local sponsors and vendors, and live entertainment that will include an Elvis impersonator. Prizes will be awarded to the winning cars in various categories.

According to Suzanne Bower, sales and marketing manager for The Carlisle Palm Beach, an auto show was the ideal way for the community to raise funds.

“We have had classic auto shows in the past but not on a larger scale,” Bower shared. “Our senior demographic is the perfect fit for such an event, and our area is located off of A1A and Ocean Avenue for all the drivers who like to take the scenic route to see the ocean.”

The Alzheimer’s Association reports that more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, and more than 11 million family members and friends are providing them with care and support. In Florida alone, more than 580,000 people are currently battling the disease.

“In Florida especially, raising awareness of Alzheimer’s and other dementias is so important,” said Emma Nestler, The Longest Day manager for the Alzheimer’s Association Southeast Florida Chapter. “Seniors make up such a significant proportion of our population here, and as the state with the second-highest prevalence of Alzheimer’s in the country, it is vital that we make sure everyone – regardless of age – is aware of how this disease can impact them.”

Sponsored by Solaris Rehab, the inaugural Carlisle Palm Beach Classic Auto Show will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 15 at 450 E. Ocean Ave. in Lantana. The event is open to the public. For car registration and sponsorship opportunities, call (561) 533-9440.
