Charlotte’s Web added to Health Canada’s List of Approved Cultivars (LOAC) for Cultivation in 2021
 
April 20, 2021 – Charlotte’s Web Holdings, Inc. ("Charlotte’s Web" or the "Company") (TSX:CWEB, OTCQX:CWBHF), a certified B Corporation and the market leader in  hemp CBD extract products, today announced that three of its proprietary hemp cultivars were approved for registration on Health Canada’s List of Approved Cultivars (“LOAC”) for outdoor cultivation in Canada.  These are among the first hemp CBD cultivars on the LOAC that are early flowering and early maturing for outdoor cultivation and harvesting within the shorter Canadian growing season. The approved cultivars include the Company’s original “CW1AS1” U.S. patented genetics, clearing the way for Charlotte’s Web to cultivate its leading CBD wellness products in Canada in 2021. Currently, Charlotte’s Web Products are not easily available in Canada because laws do not allow for bulk importing of USA grown hemp CBD or related products into Canada.

In addition to the Company’s CW1AS1 cultivar used for its leading Original Formula and other full-spectrum hemp extract products, Charlotte’s Web is bringing two early maturing hemp varieties to Canada – named “Duchess” and “Ambassador” – developed for cultivation in shorter northern climate growing seasons. 
 
Charlotte’s Web’s approved cultivars are three of 15 added to the 2021 LOAC.  “The majority of approved cultivars on the LOAC to date have been for industrial hemp grown to produce food, fiber, and animal feed. Now our approved cultivars are paving the way for full-spectrum hemp CBD demand in Canada and most importantly, will provide access to Charlotte’s Web products in Canada1,” explained Jared Stanley, co-founder and chief cultivation officer of Charlotte’s Web.
 
Hemp-Derived CBD in Canada
 
Despite Canada being one of the first countries to federally legalize the sale of cannabis, the hemp CBD wellness category is underdeveloped in Canada, with limited offerings of quality full-spectrum hemp extract products1.  Most CBD products in Canada are produced from cannabis with THC levels well above 0.3% which have an intoxicating effect. Charlotte’s Web hemp cultivars are cultivated below 0.3% THC, resulting in full-spectrum extracts with wellness benefits, but without the intoxication from THC.
 
Currently, Health Canada treats hemp CBD under the same regulatory regime as cannabis THC. The Canadian hemp industry is lobbying the Canadian federal government to change the regulations for hemp CBD to a natural health supplement that could be added to food, drinks, cosmetics and other wellness products. Hemp CBD products could then be sold in all types of retailers across Canada, which would help meet demand for the product. In September 2020 a report prepared by the Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy1 (IFSD) concluded that if Ottawa regulated CBD like regular health products it would open an annual market worth more than C$2 billion with immense potential for exporting CBD to other countries.

April 20, 2021 – More than 1.2 million people in the United States have HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In Lee County, the Florida Department of Health estimates around 2,300 community members are living with HIV, and that number continues to grow.
 
Lee Health is offering a free self-management program in partnership with McGregor Community Services. The six-week workshop is focused on education and awareness. 
 
 “There is a need for this kind of a program in our community, and at Lee Health, we want to meet that need,” said Sharon Krispinsky, RN, Chronic Health Program Coordinator with Lee Health. “That’s why we’re offering a free workshop designed to teach a variety of tools to actively self-manage this condition. The workshop is for those living with HIV and their loved ones.”
HIV is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system, and if not treated, can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). While there is no cure for HIV, with proper medical care, it can be controlled and managed. People with HIV who get effective treatment can live long, healthy lives. 
 
The McGregor Clinic is one of the largest providers of HIV care in Southwest Florida. McGregor Community Services is a division of the clinic that offers different services to the community through their free HIV rapid testing, education, mobile unit outreach and community mobilization. Their team members have volunteered to teach the self-management workshop.
 
Through the program, which was originally developed by Stanford University, participants will learn how to:
•Live with a chronic condition
•More easily manage your medications
•Understand the benefits of exercise
•Make smarter decisions related to healthy eating
•Work more effectively with health professionals
•Understand ways to manage difficult emotions
•Improve your sleep through different methods and tools
 
“The techniques taught in this class are proven to help those with HIV successfully manage their condition,” said Amy Zamot, Prevention Director at The McGregor Clinic. “Those with HIV and their loved ones who attend the workshop will meet and gain support from others, which is so important in self-management of the virus.”
 
Virtual and in-person sessions are offered throughout the year. Participants of the program will be in small, confidential groups, and the classes will be lively and interactive. The next virtual workshop starts May 19th and runs through June 23rd.

April 20, 2021 – Stan Meadows, hospital executive to Holy Cross Health, has joined the Alzheimer’s Association for the second consecutive year as the 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer’s event chair in Broward County.
 
“I’m excited and honored to chair the walk again this year,” Meadows said. “While 2020 was challenging, our committee, team captains, walkers and families were resilient and we achieved great success. For 2021, our entire committee has returned and we’ve further expanded with even more dedicated volunteers. We are off to a great start, and I know this year will be even better!”
 
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, including 580,000 Floridians. Additionally, more than 11 million Americans provide care to loved ones with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, participants walked individually and in small groups throughout their communities rather than at one large gathering. This year, the Association is moving forward with plans to host the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in person.

April 19, 2021 – Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) today announced that Audrey Andrews, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, will retire from the Company at the end of the year. With this change, Tom Arnst, who currently oversees Human Resources for all three Company divisions as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, will add the responsibility and reporting of the Tenet Enterprise legal department as General Counsel. Arnst’s background as Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Tenet’s Conifer Health Solutions subsidiary, coupled with his many years of experience in this role across other companies, provides a unique opportunity for Tenet as part of the Company’s ongoing transformation.

Before becoming General Counsel in 2013, Andrews served as Tenet’s Chief Compliance Officer overseeing the Company’s ethics and compliance program. Andrews also previously served as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for Tenet’s regulatory affairs. In that position, she led the law department’s regulatory group in handling Medicare reimbursement, quality of care and other regulatory issues. She joined the Company in 1998 as Hospital Operations Counsel.
 
As Andrews will retire on Dec. 31, 2021, she and Arnst will work together to ensure a seamless transition. Both will report directly to Rittenmeyer, with Arnst responsible for the ongoing functions, people and business of the legal department and Andrews overseeing specific matters and other items of which she has deep knowledge. Andrews will retain her title of Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, addressing these important issues for the Company.
 
In addition to his role leading the legal department of Conifer Health Solutions which he assumed in 2018, Arnst was named Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Tenet earlier this year, and will now be the Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Tenet. Arnst is also the Chief Risk Officer for Tenet.
 
Rittenmeyer added, “Tom has more than 30 years of experience working in Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel roles across healthcare, regulatory and compliance, outsourcing and financial services, among other industries. His work as Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Conifer Health and now expanding this role to the overall Tenet Enterprise will ensure a smooth and effective transition, and we look forward to drawing on his expertise with this expansion of responsibilities. These changes demonstrate our efforts to thoughtfully build a strong internal bench of talent within the Tenet enterprise, allowing us to further develop our leaders and promote from within.”
 
Previous positions held by Arnst include Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Conifer Health; Chief Administrative Officer of Millennium Health; Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Expert Global Solutions; and many executive roles at companies including Safety-Kleen, AmeriServe, RailTex and Ryder. Arnst obtained a BA in Finance from Florida Atlantic University and a JD and LLM from the University of Miami.
